Classroom Newsletters This year your student’s classroom newsletter will be online. Simply go to the campus website. Click on Faculty & Staff and scroll down to 3 rd grade. Should you have problems locating the site please contact your teacher.

STAAR Testing This test is completely TEKS based. The 3 rd grade STAAR test covers material introduced and covered from Kindergarten – 3 rd grade! STAAR Test dates are TBD by the state. We will inform you of the dates as they arrive.

Spelling Your child will be given 10 spelling words each week. 5 of the words will follow a phonics pattern and the other 5 will be vocabulary words from math, social studies or science. Along with the spelling words, the students will be asked to create a sentence using a spelling word correctly. Tests are given on Fridays.

Reading and Writing In 3 rd grade we actively teach cursive writing. Read a variety of genres. Journal regularly We’ll publish writing in a variety of ways!

Math We will use Investigations as our main curriculum. Investigations teaches the child number fluency and different ways to look at numbers. Memorizing multiplication facts to the 12’s is a must!

Science TEKS based and tested by school district CBA’s (Curriculum Based Assessment) We use Interactive Science Notebooks Hands on experiments and projects.

You can help! Encourage your child to do the best they can- but don’t pressure them! Volunteer! Let your student see you here! Listen to students read, help tutor, or help prepare teaching materials!

Please review your child’s folder each day!

Graded Work! Graded work comes home in your child’s folder. Any assignment with a grade below 70% can and should be corrected and returned that week! Corrections raise grades to a maximum 70%!

Chisholm Ridge Elementary Behavior Program Please be sure that you see and sign the Behavior Management sheet weekly and return it the next day. Conduct grades are based on the number of additions and deductions your child has during the 9 weeks

We’re looking forward to a great year!
