1.ABSTRACT: The increasing cost of in-bed hospitalization and the recent technological advances in low-power integrated circuit switches coupled with the introduction of power efficient protocols such as Bluetooth and ZigBee has tempted researchers to study the establishment and usage of wireless networks as a vehicle for transmitting patients-related information without the need to confine them to a premise. Wireless based non-confining monitoring systems improve the quality of life for the patients while serving as a cost effective solution to the problem of patient monitoring

2.OBJECTIVE: The main intension of this project is to design a system, which proposed a scheme to monitor the requirements of a patient and reliable data transmission in Zigbee based patient monitoring system.

3.BLOCK DIAGRAM : TRANSMITTER:

RECIEVER :

4.METHODOLOGY: The project consists of a transmitter for each of the patients and a single receiver in the doctor’s monitoring room. The patient circuit consists of switches unit consisting of appropriate switches, controller and a transmitter. If the switch is pressed, the pressed switch will indicates the requirement of the patient. The signal from the switch is given to the controller. Then the controller will indicate the patient requirement via display and the same information is transmitted via Zigbee. On the doctors end the receiver common for all the transmitted signals. The signal is received in the receiver via Zigbee. The received signal is given to the ARM to present a corresponding voice information to indicate exactly the patient requirement.

5.ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES: ADVANTAGES:  A place in the hospital where very ill patients are monitored very closely.  The patients in the ICU need a constant monitoring of their requirements. This project is a working model, which incorporates switches to monitor the patients requirements continuously.  Any abnormality felt by the patient is indicated by a voice signal.  The patients can be analyzed by doctors in any part of the hospital wherever they are.  Thus it reduces the work load of a nurses and also gives more accurate results.  The patient-staff ratio is very low, so these kind of advanced equipment is necessary.

DISADVANTAGES:  One time investment cost.  Patient has to press the switches manually to convey the message to the receiver, but with the help of voice activated system we can overcome this disadvantage.

6.APPLICATIONS:  Hospitals it monitoring the requirements of the patients continually.  By using this system the patients can be analyzed by doctors in any part of the hospital.  Used to transfer the information from the transmitter side to receiver side wirelessly.

7.CONCLUSION: As this project is based on micro-controller(ARM7LPC2148) and Zigbee technology is used to transmit data this can be of great use in the field of medicine and helps the doctors to keep a keen eye on the patients requirements with the help of switches in the patient side(Tx).
