Reading Vocabulary /Spelling Words Reading Series: Macmillan/McGraw-Hill Review letters and sounds High Frequency Flash Cards will be sent home today. Please review these high frequency word cards with your child daily. Spelling lists and new vocabulary cards are sent home with each new story beginning with Book One. Our guided reading groups will also begin at this time. Please keep and review these vocabulary word cards.

Writer’s Workshop Each day your child will be writing and learning the writing process. Daily writing will be sent home or kept in a folder at school to be shared at conferences.

Assessment Proficient - Meets skill requirements with little assistance. Basic – Progressing in understanding skill requirements with some assistance. Minimal – Needs frequent assistance to understand skills Report Cards Three times a year. Individual skills assessed through oral, written, and hands-on tools.

Birthday Directory First Grade Birthday Information Parents/Guardians: We know that birthdays are certainly special days for children. Birthdays are wonderful times to celebrate with family and friends. We are requesting that for school friend parties, you would use the birthday information sheet designed for you to call or send invitations directly to those students. PLEASE DO NOT SEND INVITATIONS TO SCHOOL. If invitations are sent they will be returned. Thank you for your cooperation! I give permission for my child’s name, birthday, address, telephone number, and first grade homeroom to be shared with all the first grade friends in a birthday directory.

Have a Plan A parent note or phone call is required when your child’s after school plan is changed. If we do not receive a note, your child will be sent home as stated in parent letter. Early Release/Dismissal  Please notify the school of any changes throughout the year.

Daily Snacks Please send a nutritious snack each day for milk break.  fruit or vegetables pudding  granola bars popcorn  dry cereal *Please NO PEANUT products.

Book Orders Optional Each month a book order form will be sent home with your child. Please order online at using code GRN43 or pay with a check made out to Scholastic First book order due, Tuesday, September 11th.
