Nature’s Fury Unit Presentation Sheila Fullerton

Unit Summary There are many natural disasters that occur within our world. You will read informational text on natural disasters then research a specific disaster of your choice. You will identify the causes that lead to the disaster, locate specific information using text features, and analyze how the event affects people’s daily lives and the environment. You will create a “digital report” using music, pictures, and words to present your event to the class.

Curriculum Framing Questions How do humans respond to events that are outside of their control? Unit Questions How do I respond to unexpected events? Why do natural disasters occur? How do they affect our lives and environment? Essential Question

Content Questions What are the graphic features of expository text? What are the organizational features of expository text? What happens to the environment as a result of natural disasters?

Nature’s Fury Project This project will help my students develop 21 st century skills through: Accessing information efficiently and effectively, and using information accurately and creatively for the issue or problem at hand Research on the Internet to find information Evaluation of the accuracy and relevance of the information. Evaluation of the relevance of music/pictures to their topic. Composition/creation of a “digital Report” to communicate their learning.
