Classroom Policies Attendance and tardiness policy: Students must be in class @7:45 am , that is the late bell. Grading policy: All assignments are due during class time. No late assignment will be accepted. If student have an excuse absence, he/she will have until next class period to turn in . Homework is given daily or every other class, please log on to teacher website for home-learning daily LMacias-berry.weebly.com Policies for addressing academic and behavioral problems: Phone call home after 2nd warning.

Curriculum goals The students will learn how to read stories and literature, as well as more complex texts that provide facts and background knowledge in areas such as science and social studies. Students will be challenged and asked questions that push them to refer back to what they’ve read. This stresses critical-thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills that are required for success in college, career, and life.

Materials Inside Reading & Language & Writing; (middle school) Edge Reading, Writing, & Language (high school) Novels: Each quarters students are required to have a novel, 1st and 3rd quarters novel are assigned per grade level, 2nd and 4th quarter novel are free of choice. As novels are assigned, they will be posted on classroom website. Composition Notebook Pencils/ Pens Loose Sleeve paper Folder Color pencils and / or crayons Index cards Dictionary / thesaurus

Study Island Website: www.studyisland.com Click "Student Login" to log in Student username: (example: 123456) Student password: Student's ID # (example: s123456) Study Island will be assigned according to class benchmark. Reports will be printed and will count as a Technology grade. Below you will see the details for grading: A grade will be given for each assignments completed.  A grade of a Z (zero) is given for no completed assignments. It is either an "A“- "F", or a "Z" grade. No exceptions. 

Homework & Attendance Homework will be assigned EVERYDAY. All homework will be posted online on our classroom website Lmacias-berry@weebly.com , as well as announced during class. There are times where additional tasks may be assigned verbally in class but not posted online. Homework is due the next class day unless otherwise stated on the class website. Failure to do so will result in the following: 1. X- a zero for that assignment (if it becomes consistent, steps 2 and 3 will follow) 2. Parent contact 3. Parent conference ATTENDANCE Daily class attendance is important for student success. If the student is absent at any time it is his/her responsibility to request the classwork and homework that was missed and will receive 2 days to complete and return the work ONLY IF the absence is EXCUSED. If the student is absent on a day homework is due he/she are responsible for turning it in upon your return to school.

Grading Policy Category Weights: Test 35% Quizzes/ Formative Assessments 20% Classwork Homework/Participation 10% Technology 15% Project/ Essay 20%

How You Can Be Involved Focus on helping your child learn at home (designate a quiet study area and set time restrictions) Become a team player and offer to review vocabulary words using flashcards Encourage your child to use the online review activities as an extension of the classroom learning. Seek assistance from me or the guidance counselor when your child is having difficulty Show interest in your child’s successes and offer encouragement in times of failure

Volunteer Policy Per contract, parents must complete 30 volunteer hours per school year. Donated items may be submitted to the teacher with a receipt. Donation value of $3.33 is equal to volunteer 1hr. Copy paper, dry erase markers, paper towel, tissue, hand sanitizer, tape, timer, etc….
