Assessments ELA -Theme tests, HFW tests, spelling tests, running records, writing samples, etc. Math – Written tests, orals and slates, open responses, focus facts, etc. Various types of evaluations will be used.

Science and Social Studies Please remember that participation by your child is the emphasis in these areas. Science topics covered throughout the year: senses, magnets, plants, animals, dental health. Social Studies topics covered throughout the year: families, school, celebrations, and important people.

Homework Strictly practice or review Assigned Monday-Thursday A homework checklist will be placed into the back of your child’s folder on Monday of each week. This should stay in the folder until Friday. Home reading will be part of daily homework starting in October (Reading Log). Anywhere from minutes everyday is a good start. The main goal is to have your child develop a love of reading and writing. Parental guidance and active participation in your child’s learning are important parts of your child’s success in first grade.
