1 to Parent Information Night! Please find your child’s desk. They can put any supplies they brought tonight in their desk/cubby. Please start filling out all the papers in your folder. Please sign up for a conference time on the side table!

2 About the Teacher Graduated from Purdue University in 2008 Grew up in Goshen, Indiana 4 th year teaching---My first year I taught 5 th grade and this is my 3 rd year teaching 3 rd grade!!!

3 Grading Scale 90-100%A 80-89%B 70-79%C 60-69%D 59-0%F Reagan Policies Dress: no tank tops, backless shoes, or short shorts Homework Policy: Call by 10 a.m. to receive student’s homework when they are absent. Medications: The form in the handbook must be completed and turned into the school nurse to take medication during the day. Transportation: You must have a note to change plans for the day. If there is no note or call, they will be sent home as usual.

4 PLC’s Teachers meet every Wednesday morning to review data and plan lessons that meet the needs of the students. Students will be dismissed every Wednesday starting at 3:05. On a 2 hour delay—students dismiss at 3:35

11 Writer's Workshop New Writing workshop this year 6 + 1 Writing Traits( Conventions, word choice, voice, organization, ideas and sentence fluency) Writing Notebook Prompts

12 Reading Workshop Basal stories- vocabulary and comprehension activities A homework bookmark will go home on Monday that needs to be signed and returned by Wednesday Reading Workshop- Mini-lessons daily on comprehension skills and critical thinking Reading Notebook to respond to literature Individual reading time, conferences with teacher and book club groups 90 minute block

13 Spelling Pre-test on Friday. If students get 100%, a challenge list will be given. Final test on Thursday. Spelling Contracts due on Thursday (website if needed)

14 Science/Health/Social Studies Science and health will be combined into one grade on report cards Projects: Economics study, simple machines, plants Various health topics 30 minutes of SS and Science each day SS and Science time—Learning Lab times

15 Homework Monday: Grammar Minute Basal Story/Return reading slip Tuesday: Reading/Spelling Worksheet Wednesday: study spelling (test Thurs.) Thursday: study reading (test Fri.) Friday: spelling contracts handed out: due Thursday of following week Everyday: Math Home Links page ***Homework not returned by 9:00, will result in 5 minutes walking during recess and jeopardize an end of nine weeks celebration.

17 Transportation *ALL transportation changes must be communicated through note to the teacher or personal contact with the office *Do not send transportation changes via email or leave on teachers' voice mail as it will not be received in the event of a substitute *Transportation changes must be made before 3:00 *Transportation Dept. will be in the main hallway this evening for parents who have specific questions about their child's bus route.
