Agenda

Purpose: The purpose of the final project is to demonstrate what you have learned in the course. You will need to create a lesson plan for an imaginary online course.

Project Considerations: You have to include enough content that will require each student to spend at least 10 hours online for the week. Thus, consideration of time is important to thread into your lesson plan.

Project Considerations: You need to demonstrate a thorough understanding of Backwards Design within the project. You need to incorporate various uses of Web 2.0 technologies, PLN’s and effective use of your LMS.

Creativity is the Key: Lesson plans should be creative and include a variety of Web 2.0 approaches. Avoid the inclusion of basic online options (i.e., discussion boards, quizzes, etc…). You can, of course, fold those into your project, but other more creative inclusions should be considered.

Purpose: Pick a topic that you want to teach and develop a lesson plan for it. You should be well-informed and comfortable with the topic for which you will be planning. Only use original work. Assumptions: You will be working in the context of an LMS and will have access to standard tools including: Grade book Seminar Discussion Board Synchronous Seminar Blogs Wikis Collaborative Media (LMS) Presentational Media (Web 2.0) Understanding the Project

Project Details You do not need to use all the tools and activities. You need to make thoughtful, informed decisions based on your desired results in this unit. Assume also that your environment also allows you to embed and use low-threshold technologies (Web 2.0). This will be one week-long unit of instruction. Assume that students can devote 10 hours during the week for study and activities.

SECTION 1 – Topic Course: What course (or area of study) will Unit be part of generally? Topic: At a high-level what is the topic that you will be covering? Why is it important for students to learn this? SECTION 2 – Student Information (In this section, describe your students and what strengths and weaknesses they may bring to your class.) Student Profile: Who do you assume your student will be? What age and demographic information do you assume? Entry Level Skills, Knowledge and Attitudes: What are their strengths and weaknesses? Section 1 and 2

Section 3 SECTION 3 – Backwards Design In this section, explain your high level thinking about what you want students to learn in this unit. Identify Desired Results: (What is the enduring learning, the enduring value that you want to foster in students?) Assessment: (What will you use to determine whether a student has achieved the desired results?) Instructional Strategies: (At a high-level, what types of instructional strategies will you use in this course?)

Section 4 Unit Lesson Plan Details In this section, give details about what you are planning for your class. Please annotate your reasoning behind your choices. Unit 1: Overview Unit: Objectives These should be written in the format and styles of Bloom’s Taxonomy. Two to three objects are normal for a one week unit. Section 5 What you bring to the classroom In this section, give write an extensive assessment of yourself as an online instructor. What are your strengths and/or weaknesses? How will you establish your teaching presence online? What specific techniques will you employ?

Write, write and continue to write. Exhaust each topic. Discuss, explain and discuss some more. Detail out your thoughts. Be creative. Showcase what you have learned by taking this course. Avoid standard online defaults. Projects should be anywhere from pages in length. I am looking for content, organization and well thought out out plans. Expectations Continued

Consider the limitations of your students and plan for it your lesson. Embed or link to at least two learning objects that you have created for your lesson. Provide links to other media or inclusions, if used. Do not bullet your comments. Write in narrative form only. Be thorough, not brief in your descriptions throughout your project. Again, I am looking for creativity.
