September 12,2014 Web Platform Content and Structure

Confidential and Proprietary - Not for Public Distribution - Do Not Copy 2 Overview The new Web Platform will reduce the burden of website maintenance on councils while improving the quality of content. To achieve this, we are providing: High-quality national copy that can be automatically pushed to council sites. A structure that Showcases local content. Allows councils to augment national content with local content. Tools to manage and display Events and Activities, Forms and Documents, and Staff Directories. A team to review your current website and provide recommendations for structuring council-specific content and design best practices.

Global Navigation Sections Confidential and Proprietary - Not for Public Distribution - Do Not Copy 3 The Global Navigation is broken down into three sections. They are all accessible from every page of the site. 1.The Eyebrow: A section for links to key pages, tools, and resources. 2.Primary Navigation: Shows the primary national and council sections of the website. 3.Footer: Used for council-specific content, such as Privacy Policies, Terms and Conditions, and Social Media links and icons. The bulk of the section is given to Our Programs. In addition to the programs covered below, some councils choose to append local programs to this sections. Content analysts can advise on the best ways to do this. This section covers information that is common to most council websites. For those councils who choose to take advantage of the section, it greatly reduces the burden of content creation. As updated content is available, this section (and all national sections) will update automatically, further reducing the workload on the council level. Optional Section 3 (Council)

The tool will give users the option of viewing Events and Activities either in a list or on a calendar. Once they see something of interest, a single click takes them to a page with all of the details. Note: In the initial release of the Web Platform, councils will continue to use their current registration systems – typically eBiz – for Events and Activities only. In a future release, Volunteer Systems will be used for registration purposes, providing users with a single sign-in for the site. Optional Section 3 (Council)

It is searchable by Keyword, Region, Date, Program, or Category. The Advanced Search is also customizable, allowing councils to add their own Categories.

It provides adults with both the reasons to and the ways they can volunteer. Currently, many council sites are filled with documents and resources that support the work of volunteers. To improve the user experience, resources directed at volunteers have been moved to the Volunteer Tool Kit (VTK), providing an uncluttered experience for the general public and a powerful tool for volunteers. Eyebrow, Footer, and Right Rail

Confidential and Proprietary - Not for Public Distribution - Do Not Copy 14 The Eyebrow The Eyebrow is completely customizable, though we recommend three to five links. These links include: Sections that are not in the Global Navigation. Shortcuts to high-traffic areas of the site. (Often pages within large Global Navigation sections.) Tools such as Forms and Documents. Below is a fairly typical council eyebrow. ContactCalendarFormsShop Careers About Our Council: A section of council-specific pages that is often found in the primary navigation as well. Shop: Many councils link to the GSUSA store ( Forms and Documents: A searchable tool of every form and document on the site. (See following slide.) This is often a deep link to a page in one of the Global Navigation sections. Calendar: A deep link to the calendar view in the Events & Activities section. Contact: A link to the council’s contact information. This is often a deep link to a page in one of the Global Navigation sections.

Confidential and Proprietary - Not for Public Distribution - Do Not Copy 15 Forms and Documents Council sites can have hundreds of forms and documents posted throughout the site. This page is a tool providing users with quick access to the most frequently used forms and Advanced Search functionality to help them find exactly what they’re looking for – whether it’s posted on one of the site’s pages or simply available for download from the Forms and Documents section. Users can search by Keywords and Categories. The search is customizable, allowing councils to add their own Categories. (Note: The Document Type search is still tentative.)

Confidential and Proprietary - Not for Public Distribution - Do Not Copy 16 Footer Though the green-bar footer is a design requirement that anchors the page, links are optional. It is often used for: Privacy Policies Terms and Services (or Terms and Conditions) Social media links or icons. A sample footer is displayed below.

Confidential and Proprietary - Not for Public Distribution - Do Not Copy 17 Right Rail The right rail is used for banner-ad style callouts and calls to action. They are commonly used for: Volunteer recruitment Girl Scout signup Note: For the initial release, banners will most likely be the same on all pages. In future releases, they will be adjustable from page-to-page. Below are mockups of right-rail banners. Example of Southern App designed banners
