Changes in Key Stage 2 Swimming – Alternate half terms (Aut 2, Spring 2, Summer 2) Monday mornings. NC aim – confidently swimming 25m Literacy in classes – some RWI as a support group Boys and Girls Literacy group French is compulsory in KS2 Junior playground and assemblies More/ different clubs available Opportunity to earn a handwriting pen Have to earn their Golden Time (class reward charts) No more free fruit Twitter page to follow Regular updates/photos on the school website
Independence In Year 3 we expect the children to develop their independence skills. This includes: Putting their own belongings away in the mornings Putting home/school contact books into the box/tray Looking after jumpers!! – making sure they are in their trays & clearly labelled Changing their own reading books Choosing appropriate resources to support their learning, such as a number line or hundred square when adding and using various vocabulary/displays around the classroom Writing in the Home/School contact book when they have read
Home/School Contact Books Each child is responsible for their own reading book and home/school contact book Checked by class teacher/teaching assistant every Friday If there’s a note in the book from parent(s) put in tray/box which will be checked on the day If they read at home, we would like the children to write it in themselves as well as what they enjoyed, etc.
Year 3 routines 8:45am - arrival. Cloakroom, water bottles, book bags. Home contact book in tray/box if there’s a message for that day. Start morning challenge. Please encourage independence. 11am Playtime. Fruit or vegetables for snack. 12:30 Lunchtime. Hot school meals play first then eat. Topic based activities in the afternoon – Literacy and Numeracy usually in mornings.
Homework Continual – reading 4x a week (moving from less decoding to more comprehension) Free readers should be writing a comment/review after completing a book. Multiplication tables (higher expectation in new curriculum) Spellings – given at the beginning of half term. Bronze, silver, gold. Address common errors too. 2x project based homeworks over the year that can last a half term. Alternate numeracy and literacy tasks or activities.
Other bits ‘n’ bobs PE – x2 sessions on non swimming half terms. Hair bobbles and covered or no ear rings. Outdoor shoes Learning hub – library/ ipad minis. Replies/ money – in a named envelope with class in black box outside the office. Readers – We aim for chn to read 1:1 every 2 weeks - We would be grateful for any volunteers to help with reading – Need CRB check. Please ask for more info.
Wildside Camping on School grounds, Wellington April – after Easter 2 days – activities/team building games, sleep in tents. Year 4 experience – Wildside Camping, Hemyock Meeting later in the year to discuss further and meet the team.
