Earth Science Expectations Welcome to Miss McParland’s Earth Science Class!

What is Earth Science? The study of Earth’s land, water, air, and outer space.

What is covered in this class? Ecology Geology Hydrology Meteorology Astronomy

Stuff you might need. 5 Star Notebook Pens and pencils – I expect you to have one everyday! Colored pencils, markers, and crayons – We do many projects in class it is nice to have your own but not mandatory. Glue sticks Scissors

What happens first? First Semester: – Lab safety – Scientific Inquiry & Metric System – Structure of the Earth and plate tectonics – Minerals and rocks – Weathering, Erosion, and Soil formation Second Semester: – Hydrology (water cycle) – Atmosphere – Meteorology – Climatology – Astronomy

Where does my grade come from? 45%50% 5% A = 90% B = 80% C = 70% D= 60% F = 50% and below

What is expected of my work? All work turned in should be-Neat with your/Name, Date, Period on it. On technology work, use correct English. No texting abbreviations. OMG! You are responsible for getting the make-up work, located in the Becker Book on my desk, handouts are in the Handout folder, and missing notes are available online on my website. Late work grades are lowered. First day late -10% after the first day it is 50%. There is NO extra credit given.

What is expected of me? Be in your seat at the bell Be in your seat at the bell or you are tardy. No Food or Drink! Water is ok. If the cell phone is out, it is mine. I keep all toys. Follow the Lab Safety Rules (or you get seat work) Follow my directions and classroom procedures. And……….

Class Procedures Entering the Room – Sit in assigned seat – Take out pen/pencil/notebook – Begin your bell work – And SMILE (its science!)

Class Procedures Turning in work – Remember your name, papers without names receive no credit and are placed in the graveyard If you are absent – Ask your partners what you missed and check the Becker book – Get missed copies from the Handout folders and/or my website. – If you have questions ask me after class or when I am not teaching.

Class Procedures Using the bathroom – Fill out planner. – Ask me to sign it when I am NOT teaching. Washing your hands – You may use any sink but the one by the teacher desk. – Don’t waste paper towels. – Don’t be disruptive !!!

Class Procedures Sharpening your pencil – Do this when I am NOT Teaching!!!!! Blowing your nose – Quietly get a tissue and blow your nose. – Yes, you may step outside. If you need to throw up……… – Grab the trashcan and run outside

Class Procedures Leaving the class – Keep working until you are instructed to pack up – Make sure your area is cleaned up – Make sure all materials are returned to the correct place – Wait to be dismissed by Miss McParland – Push in or stack your chair

Where is the stuff? The best time to get “stuff”, use the bathroom, or sharpen a pencil is WHEN I AM NOT TEACHING! Use, do not abuse the STUFF!!! Let’s take a “tour” of the room and find out where to go if there is a fire drill..
