 Questions?  General Course Components  Unit 4 –  To-Do List  Mini Project  Seminar Topic

For having lived long, I have experienced many instances of being obliged, by better information or fuller consideration, to change opinions, even on important subjects, which I once thought right but found to be otherwise. - Benjamin Franklin

 Reading (and more!) Great learning activities this unit. Set aside some time and check them out.  Respond to the Discussion Board Decide with your classmates who will visit certain KU services. Everyone will report back and teach what they found.  Seminar Participate in the live seminar or complete Option 2  Virtual Field Trip Discover how to search for information, evaluate it and use the Kaplan librarians as well!  Project Complete the Unit 4 Mini Project

Create a Test Taking Plan For this mini-project, you need to complete a list of ideas that can help you be a better test taker. You will include pre test, during test, and post test ideas (5 items for each testing phase). Make this a checklist for yourself so that you can use it on all tests. Use the template available through the button above to develop your plan.

How to prepare?  Review all related reading and learning activities  Carefully review project description and project grading rubrics  Read, print out, and follow all directions  When a template is provided – use it !  Use available resources including the Kaplan Writing Center and Tutoring Center Technical Tip: Contact Kaplan Student Tech Support if having difficulty accessing template. They are available toll free, 24/7.

Create your Word Document 12-point, double-spaced, Times New Roman Font. Don’t forget your name, date and Unit assignment at the top. Naming your files– Unit 4 Mini Project Important Reminder – *To ensure that student grades are returned to the correct student, file names for all projects and assignments turned into the Dropbox for grading must follow the Kaplan Guidelines for file naming or they will be returned to you ungraded. Student names should appear at the beginning of the name. EXAMPLE: JRabideauCS11906Unit4MiniProject

In this assignment, we’ll help you locate articles for your Unit 4 project.  Take the search terms “stress management” or “anxiety” or “depression” and “college students.”  For example, “stress management and college students” Enter this in the following places:  Kaplan University Library Online – search for consumer level articles, not journals  Mayo Clinic (  National Institutes of Health (  Kaplan University “Center for Health and Wellness” ( Not searchable, you’ll just have to look for the articles)  Search engine (e.g. Bing, Google, Yahoo, )

 Out of the selection of articles,  pick one that interests you from each of the 5 searches. Make sure that you can understand the content, and it is not something too advanced for you at this time.  Write the Name, Title, Author, Web link of each.

USING the WORD Document you created for the Mini Project  Now, choose 2 of those articles that interested you and write the following: 1) Give a very brief description of the article (3-5 sentences) 2) For whom do you think this article is written (e.g. adults, teenagers, professionals, consumers, a specific audience of any kind) 3) Do you think there are biases in the article? (For instance, do you think the author was trying to sell a product, political view, or particular philosophy?) 4) What did you think of the article? (3-5 sentences). ** List the five you found and then the two that you have written up more in-depth.

For your responses to each of the questions Write in complete sentences using Standard English grammar, capitalization, and punctuation – no short phrases.

Use all TIP and ADDITIONAL HELP provided!

True genius resides in the capacity for evaluation of uncertain, hazardous, and conflicting information. - Winston Churchill  Qst 1. What does it mean to be “literate” about information? Please answer this question using a full sentence, complete with punctuation

is… a fancy phrase that simply means to decide what information is valid and important in order to complete the task at hand.  Whether it is a project for school or for work, you must know what information is necessary and what information can be trusted to do the job you have to do.  You must learn various technologies and be able to communicate the information to others with your rapidly improving writing skills. In this unit, you will learn more about information literacy.  In the next unit, you will learn about critical thinking, critical reading, and note taking, which is going to help you decide what information is necessary. These units go hand in hand. The good news is that if you learn to master this, you will have as much chance of using this incredible resource to your benefit as anyone else in the world! You will be able to compete in the same race as the most educated and most advanced health care workers.

 Qst 2. How do you recognize “quality” information? It is a very sad thing that nowadays there is so little useless information. - Oscar Wilde  Please answer this question using a full sentence, complete with punctuation

 Qst 3. What steps are used in finding it?  Please answer this question using a full sentence, complete with punctuation

 Qst 4. How do you acknowledge what you have found? What Kaplan resources are available to you?  Please answer this question using a full sentence, complete with punctuation
