3 Reminders and Updates: Don’t forget to read the home page announcements, in addition to our weekly “unit announcements.” If you have any late work turned in please email me if it has not been graded. Unit 5 “Conditional Enrollment” is coming up this week. All assignments must be turned in by the end of unit 5 on Tuesday, May 1 st @11:59 PM. There are no exceptions to this, per Kaplan Policy.

4 Important Reminders : You must have all unit 4 projects in to me by tomorrow… Tuesday April 17 th !!! I will be returning some of your degree plans back to you! You must make changes quickly so that you can earn your grade. If you get it returned, please make the changes ASAP. You will not get a grade for this assignment until it is complete.

5 Unit 4 Overview This week in Unit 4, our explorations become even more personalized to you as an individual. We will explore the customized part of your degree program, where you get to choose the classes that you are interested in taking as electives to build the path to your personally selected career in the field of early childhood development.

6 Objectives After completing this unit, you should be able to: Describe your reasons for choosing the elective course clusters Explore specializations in the field of early childhood development Develop your Customized Early Childhood Development Degree Plan Course outcomes practiced in this unit: CE100-4: Apply basic knowledge of the early childhood professional role to program and professional goals GEL-1.1: Demonstrate college-level communication through the composition of original materials in Standard American English

7 Unit 4 : What will prepare you? How do you see your courses preparing you for the field you are going to enter? What courses are you excited to take?

8 Project In the Unit 4 Project you will use the information provided about the program and classes, combined with your intended career and academic goals. You will have an opportunity to review and select the elective classes for your Customized Early Childhood Development Degree Plan.

9 Project In this project, you will choose the elective classes or clusters of electives that will personalize and customize your Early Childhood Development Degree Plan. You may choose one of the sample elective class clusters or create your own; in addition, there may be other individual electives you want to take

11 Last thought on the Project Please remember that there are two documents for the unit 4 project, you must turn in both parts to receive your grade. 1. An excel spread sheet – Associates or Bachelors, and 2. The template sharing: Why have you chosen the elective classes included in your degree plan? What skills and knowledge do you expect to learn from these classes? How will these individual skills and knowledge help you in your field? How will these electives further your career goals in general?

14 Important: B.S. Degree = 54 hours of electives (six 100/200 level courses and four 300/400 level courses) A.A. Degree = 25 hours of electives (five 100/200 level courses) Before choosing a catalog course, check to see if there is a prerequisite.

16 Common Questions and Tips : What about my transfer credits and how does that apply? Always check for prerequisites of a course before putting it on your elective list. This will not be set in stone, so you do not have to worry if you have a change.

17 Prerequisite Example : CE 340 (you can take if you have CE 240) CE 350 (can only take if you took CE 340) CE 440 (prerequisites are CE 340 and CE 350)
