White Before Your Eyes

Purpose: To investigate the chemical properties of substances that have similar physical properties. Materials: Spoons Well Plate Dropper bottles Toothpicks Water Vinegar Iodine Solution Baking Powder Baking Soda Cornstarch Sugar Safety: Wash your hands after the lab

Procedure: Add enough baking powder to three well of the well plate to cover the bottom. Observe the physical properties and record in the unmixed column. Add 10 mL of water and stir with a toothpick record your observations in the mixed with water column. Add 20 drops of vinegar to the second cup, observe and record in the mixed with vinegar column. Add 5 drops of iodine solution to the third cup of baking powder and stir, record your observations in the mixed with iodine column. Repeat 1-6 with the baking soda, cornstarch and sugar. In table 2 write the type of change you observed.
