EXPERIMENT: Action of Amylase on Starch

A B C D E F G Add 10 ml of distilled water to each tube.

A B C D E F G Add 7 drops of iodine solution to each tube.

A B C D E F G Add 1 ml of 1% soluble starch solution to tube A. ***Starch + iodine =

Place 10 ml 1% soluble starch solution in a 50 ml beaker and add 2 ml of 2% amylase solution, stirring as you add. Start timing after you finish adding the amylase. starch amylase

A B C D E F G After 2 minutes, add 1 ml of the starch-amylase solution to tube B.

A B C D E F G After 2 more minutes (4 minutes from time zero), add 1 ml of starch-amylase solution to tube C.

A B C D E F G Repeat this process every 2 minutes for the rest of the tubes.

A B C D E F G Observe the colors and record your observations.

Add remaining starch-amylase solution into test tube 1. 1

Add an equal amount of original 1% soluble starch solution into test tube 2. 1 2
