Microsoft PowerPoint Using a Design Template and Text Slide Layout

Objectives Design templates Title slides Text slides Multi-level lists Black and white slides

Design Templates A design template is used to consistently apply a collection of slide layout, background, color schemes and font layout styles to every slide in a presentation Whether or not content was entered, try different design templates, and apply one suitable to the occasion

Slide Layouts There are several built-in slide layouts that you can use to organize content Most common text layouts: –Title Slide –Title and Text –Combinations of title, text, and content You can incorporate a variety of non-text content into your presentation

Title Slides Title slides identify the title of your presentation Can be used to tell your audience what the presentation is about, or who the presenter is Use the increase or decrease font size button to maintain hierarchy of titles (i.e. subtitles should be smaller than the title) Foreground text color must contrast the slide’s background color

Text Slides Keep no more than 9 lines of text on each slide Summarize the slide on the slide’s title Use bullet line items to summarize your thoughts Multi-level bullets organize ideas that go from general to specific

Multi-Level Lists Multi-Level lists may be numbered (Arabic or Roman), alphabetic, or bulleted Use the increase indent button (or Tab) to add a sub-level Use the decrease indent button (or Shift-Tab) to go up one level

Non-text Content Help illustrate your ideas with –Pictures, clip-art, and screenshots –Audio clips –Movie clips –Excel graphs Be aware of copyright restrictions when using media authored by others

Black and White Slides Color slides can be quickly viewed as black and white or grayscale presentations in slide sorter and normal view Click the Color/Grayscale button (left of the zoom pull-down menu) Slide show view displays slides in their original colors (cannot display color slides in black and white)
