What is an interactive science notebook? An interactive science notebook is your own personalized SCIENCE BOOK. A portfolio of your work in ONE spot that you bring EVERY DAY. This is a great resource for STUDYING for quizzes and tests. A great ORGANIZATIONAL tool that gives you permission to be COLORFUL and CREATIVE to show me what you know or have learned. Allows you to be like a REAL SCIENTIST by asking QUESTIONS, RECORDING what you observe, and SHARING it with your classmates!

Science Notebook Supplies Scissors NO MARKERS! (except on the covers) Spiral Notebook Pens & Pencils Glue Stick Colored Pencils

Left Side  “LOVES” YOUR work. This is the side that you can use to show me what you learned in a creative and colorful ways  This is the “output” or product side  Even-numbered pages The notebook is divided into TWO sections: Source: Gretchen Vikingson at Right side  “ RESTRICTED” to Ms. Nevel’s input work  Contains info my teacher tells me to “ADD” or “WRITE”  This is the “input” side or info side  Odd-numbered pages

Step 1: The Cover Include on the cover: - The name of the course - Your name (first and last), period #, school year - A drawing of something that reminds you of Earth and Environmental science (or use images you find online). Earth and Env Science Roberta Frosh 2 nd Period

Step 2: Page Numbers Add PAGE NUMBERS for the first 50 pages. Start with 1 in the top-right corner of the first page, follow with a 2 on the back of that page and so on. EVENSODDS

Step 3: Reference Pages Inside cover top is for Notebook Rules Inside cover bottom is for pass pocket Page 1 is for your important information/references

Step 3: Continued At the tops of pages 2,3,4, write “Table of Contents” On pages 5-8, glue class handouts: Page 5: Syllabus Page 6: Class procedures Page 7: Safety rules Page 8: Greek/Latin word roots Divide each page into 3 columns: Date, Description, Page #. Step 4: Units Page At the top of page 9, you will create your first Unit page Draw or download picture(s) that relate to the unit we're studying; be colorful! Do this for homework! The first unit is…Astronomy! Astronomy

Notebook Rules  Do not rip out pages or tear corners.  All handouts must be GLUED IN!  Please don’t doodle unless it relates to science.  Each page must have the DATE, TITLE of the assignment, and PAGE #.  If you run out of room on the right-hand page, DON'T go to the back (left-hand page), but instead continue onto the next RIGHT page.  Your notebook should be used for SCIENCE CLASS ONLY!  Bring your notebook to class EVERY DAY!  Be colorful and LOVE your notebook !
