Graduation Requirements NC Scholar Requirements UNC System Requirements

Prior to Senior Conference On Friday, , students received an unofficial copy of their transcript and a Senior Planning Guide through their second period teacher. This guide will address their questions about applying to college and how the Student Services Office and their counselor can assist them.

Senior Conferences If a student has questions, prior to their meeting, they may come to Student Services and make an appointment. Each senior will have a conference with their assigned counselor. In this conference the counselor will discuss credits, testing, plans for after high school, applying to college and address other questions the student may have. The student will bring home a Senior Year Check sheet along with other information the counselor deems appropriate. These conferences will start after the 20 th day of school which is September 22. (Official Rank cannot be done until the 20 th day of school)

Standardized Testing Most Colleges require students to take a Standardized Test for Admission Purposes. Students may take the SAT or ACT. Some colleges however do not accept ACT scores. Information on how to register can be found in the Student Services Office. Students should register on-line. Information will also be posted on the Students Services website. Some schools require SAT subject tests for placement in classes once the student has been accepted. Some also require these for admission. Seniors should check with the colleges they are interested in for requirements. Test scores MUST be sent directly from the Collegeboard office or the ACT office to the college or university. Student Services will not send test scores to colleges or universities

Sending Transcripts and Teacher/Counselor Recommendations.

Transcripts for Schools INSIDE North Carolina Transcripts must be sent through ( This becomes available, September 23, 2009) Transcripts are not OFFICIAL until September 22 Students must create a CFNC account

Transcripts for Schools OUTSIDE North Carolina Students should complete an “Authorization for Release of Records” form If the student is 18, they must sign the form Please allow 5-7 school days for transcripts to be sent Students and parents cannot expect the transcript to be sent out the same day or the next day. Plan ahead, pay attention to deadlines! Official transcripts must be mailed directly from the school or sent electronically. They cannot be given to students or parents directly. No exceptions.

Teacher/Counselor Recommendations Usually only very selective schools require recommendations from teachers. (See yellow handout) Students should ask for teacher recommendations in person and supply the teacher with the necessary form. Counselor recommendations should be attached to the “Authorization for Release of Records Form”.-Only the recommendation form will be sent for colleges inside N.C. The recommendation and transcript will both be sent for colleges outside of N.C. Students are responsible for printing out any forms the counselor needs to complete. Supplying the counselor with a resume or personal profile is required if the student wants the counselor to write something about them. This can be attached to the “Release of Records” form. Plan ahead! Counselors and teachers need at least 5-7 school days to complete recommendations.

College Applications Apply to at least three schools Most students are now applying on-line (either through the college’s website or through websites like CFNC.ORG) Read application instructions carefully Proof-read the application before you mail or send it in online Send or applications in time to meet deadlines Make a copy or print out an on-line application before you send it Applications are sent separately from transcripts

Check with the College /University on scholarships available to incoming freshmen. Spend your time looking at scholarships that are local and from the school the student plans to attend. Monthly Scholarship bulletins will be available in all second period classes, and on the LRHS website Scholarships that require a school level selection process are handled differently than scholarships open to any student. For these scholarships, the submission of a resume is usually required. Be aware of Scholarship Scams. Scholarship information should always be free.
