WELCOME TO 7 TH GRADE LANGUAGE ARTS With Mrs. Stroud!

BACK TO SCHOOL Contact me by: Phone: (951) (I will get back to you in hours) (I will respond in less than 12 *************************************************************** This Power point is available on my teacher website!

PARENT/STUDENT INFO  My Syllabus (Found in student’s Binder and teacher webpage)  Teacher Website  Class Procedures page (on website and in binder)  Text messages and reminders available with office hours chat!  Class news available on Q  When all else fails, ask Mrs. Stroud! (Never rely on another student)

PLANNERS  Filled out a week at a time to plan ahead  Time given in class to fill out  Stamped by teacher to verify assignments are written correctly.  Must be signed nightly by parent AFTER verifying that the listed assignments are completed.

ABSENT AND LATE WORK  Absent work is able to be turned in for FULL credit.  Late work is able to be turned in for ½ credit timeline by trimester)  All late and absent work to be turned into the brown basket with student’s name/date/ period in upper, right-hand corner.  With over 200 students, I get to the late basket every Friday. Please be patient!

BROWN CABINET  The brown cabinet in the front right corner of the room holds the extra copies of all of the hand outs from class fro the entire trimester.  The brown cabinet is self-serve. If your student was absent or has an assignment eating backpack or folder, they do not have to ask me or be embarrassed, rather just pick out the paper they need.  Located on top of the cabinet is the master schedule planner for verification of assignments.

STUDENT PORTFOLIOS  Located along the side wall in the black crates  Students will fill out contact information should I find their backpack, assignment, glasses, phone, etc. left behind.  All work for the trimester will be graded and placed in their file. This way if there is a dispute about a grade on an assignment or if an assignment is completed, we have a verification tool.  All work will be returned at end of each trimester.  Work can not be removed from the folder unless to show me a mistake has been made. I will correct the error immediately.

NOT IN KANSAS ANYMORE! Middle school is DIFFERENT:  No named papers are thrown out  7 different teachers, styles, classes, procedures, and classmates  42 students per class, stay focused  Behavior expectations are higher  Organization is KING! Don’t procrastinate.  Block Schedule (I see your student for 1hr 35 min ever other day)  No meetings/conferences with individual teachers, only team meetings
