“PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: IT’S BACK!”

RECHARGE!!!

MISSION STATEMENT  Empowering today’s students for tomorrow’s challenges.

VISION STATEMENT  Seeking excellence through character and perseverance.

HOW DOES THIS FIT IN WITH TECHNOLOGY?  Here in good ole’ DPISD: Our Instructional Technology department seeks to promote student potential for reasoning, imagining, creating, constructing, and expressing with technological tools. It is our desire to be the link between the education of today and the technology of tomorrow.

BLAH, BLAH, BLAH…  Whateva!!! Just more educational buzzwords!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SPEAKING OF RIGOR…

RECHARGE THROUGH COLLABORATION  Your Apple Teachers and I are here to help collaborate with you in our mission to successfully integrate technology into your curriculum!

 Our collaboration will combine our strengths, share responsibilities, and learn from each other, bringing the best of our experiences together to create an improved student learning environment.

BEGINNING OF THE YEAR INFO  Teacher Webpage Requirements  Requests in School Objects – Fill in EVERY cell!  Log into Skyward TODAY!  Nearpod Accounts  Publishing Copyrighted Material on the Web  Our Technology Site  Monthly Trainings  Timeline for iPad Cart/App Requests  Computer Lab Info  iPad Care – Reviewing Basics

TEACHER WEBPAGES  Current Picture  Subject(s) that you teach  Room Number  Extension  Address  Conference  Schedule  Updated Calendar

SCHOOL OBJECTS

Log into Skyward to make sure your password works. Check your document camera, projector, etc. If something does not turn on, or it’s not responding, then put in a work order.

NEARPOD  Kari Murphy is in the process of adding all certified teachers to the Nearpod district account.  Today, you will receive a basic overview of this amazing software. You will receive credit for this morning based on your active participation in your breakout sessions.  In several of the required monthly technology trainings, we will build upon learning several aspects of Nearpod and at the end of the year, you will submit a presentation of your own!! [No, you may NOT partner with another teacher, sorry. ]

COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL  If you aren’t sure, look it up!  DO NOT scan a document, convert to a.pdf, and publish it on your website unless you are sure. Companies and entities are looking and could sue.  AVID be very careful.  Link to DPISD Copyright Page (you will sign in using your username and password)DPISD Copyright Page

REQUIRED MONTHLY TRAININGS  All certified personnel (teachers, counselors, admin) must complete the required monthly trainings.  Majority are online because I’m awesome! You’re welcome!  There are a few 2-4 that have to be face-to-face.

IPAD CART/APP REQUESTS  Remember you must fill out EVERY cell in the request!!!  Allow at least 48 hours for free apps and 5 school days for paid apps!!!  If you are constructing a large project, you must create your own gmail and Dropbox accounts. [Just create an and account for each class and use the same password] This will ensure that you won’t run out of the 5GB allowable space.  If you think a project might take a day or more longer than you expect, go ahead and put in a request for that time. This will hopefully eliminate any issues where someone else has requested the cart and we need to get the iPads ready for their students.

COMPUTER LAB INFORMATION  Please put reservations in at least 24 hours in advance. Remember ALL cells must be filled in!  We only have three open labs now: 2343, 1241, and  NO SUBS allowed in the computer labs except long term subs.  Please watch your students and make sure they know not to pull out wires, no food, no drinks, etc.  Report ANY issue to Cynthia or I immediately!!! We will tell you whether a work order needs to be placed.  To conserve paper, students may only print 5 sheets!!!  We can help you brainstorm ways to create your projects without using ink and paper!  Think Green!

REVIEWING THE IPAD  Wi-fi at South: use wlan  You will sign in using your teacher username and password.  If it only asks you for the password, you will “Forget the Network” then re-connect.  MEMORIZE the password. Brett Boudreaux if it will not accept the password.  Keep apps and software updated!  Do a soft reset at least once a week!  To learn the iPad, use it for fun! Pinterest, Netflix, Coaches Eye, etc.  DO not leave your iPad in your vehicle. If you must leave it at school, it has to be locked up in a cabinet.  DO not leave your iPad where students can access it.  Problems receiving on the iPad? Let me know!  Questions? Concerns?

IPAD AND PASSWORDS  Security Questions: DO NOT CHANGE THESE!!!!  Dream Job – DPISD  Where did your parents meet? – Deer Park  Favorite Teacher – Arnold Adair TEACHER PASSWORDS: If you are locked out, call Stephanie Byrd at the Tech Building: NEW THIS YEAR!!
