End of Key Stage 1 Assessments

What are the end of Key Stage One assessments? Previously known as SATs (Statutory Assessment Tests), Will include assessments in Maths, Reading and Writing at an appropriate ability level, An assessment to attain your child’s National Curriculum level before they enter Key Stage 2, The child’s level will be gained from the tasks undertaken at the end of Year 2 and the teacher’s on-going assessments throughout the year, The assessments help our teachers learn more about the strengths and weaknesses of what your child understands about a subject.

Throughout the year, we will make sure children are working towards end of Key Stage One expectations; ‘Booster’ groups will be delivered to address any gaps in children’s learning, Your child CANNOT fail their SATs. They will receive a level, which will be reported to you at the end of Year 2 (as part of their school report), The National Expectation is that children achieve a Level 2b. Your child may be above or below this; Year 3 teachers will use their results to plan for the next year to meet your child’s individual needs. What else do I need to know?

How can you help? Don’t talk about SATs or ‘tests’ with your child, No practice papers, Don’t pressurise your child, Complete homework as normal. REMEMBER your child’s final National Curriculum level is not decided purely on the task/test but from assessments that have been completed since September.

We will hold a further information meeting in the Spring Term. Any questions?
