WHAT HAVE I LEARNED FROM YOUR AUDIENCE FEEDBACK? Milo Marshall

What did the feedback make me realise about my product I didn’t know before?  The point I learned most from the feedback was the sheer amount of people who watched music videos daily. With 23 out of the 30 responses I got from my survey stating that they watched music videos daily I realised that my product would likely be seen by a number of people if the fans of the artist’s genre came under this category.

Did it appeal to my target audience?  Yes. Of the 30 responses I received, 24 of them were aged between 16 and 21. For the most part, this was my target audience, and of that number, 13 of them said that they most preferred the rock and or grunge genre. With over a third of my responses being in my target audience, my product appealed to their age group and genre interests. Along with the majority of them watching daily music videos, my product would eventually spread either virally, or be discussed with their friends whom likely share the same genre interests.  With 34.3% of the world being registered internet users as of 2012, I can assume with my stats from my survey that a high number of internet users that fall under my target audience who can then in turn share it with their friends and colleagues via word of mouth, social networking, etc.

Did my audience react the way I wanted?  With my products being conceptual ones, my audience reacted indifferently towards them. The majority of my responses (19) preferred a narrative music video, and another 4 preferred watching a live video of the artist. That left me with 7 people that favoured conceptual music videos over the others. However, all 7 were in my target audience category, so I could still engage my audience with the knowledge that it could then be spread throughout their social groups.  Of my responses, 22 gave positive opinions in the use of animation for music videos, and as part of my music video will be animated, this was a reaction that I had hoped for.

Which of my products would best engage my audience?  From my survey responses, I can assume that the best products to appeal to, and engage my target audience will be the print advert and Digipak designs. As stated before, 13 responses under my target audience age category said that they preferred the rock and or grunge genre. When an audience likes a genre, it is often because they not only enjoy the music, but carry the same ideals and motives that are associated with the genre. I used a variety of imagery and colour schemes that gave connotations of these ideologies in the theory that the fans, like the associations of the genre, would also carry these philosophies,  By applying the “Uses and Gratifications theory” I am able to see that over a third of my responses are likely to carry these same ideologies that would appeal to my audience through the Identity class.
