The target audience of my magazine are known to love to go out raving on a Friday night, come home on a Saturday morning and do the same thing the same day, this magazine helps them to do this as it gives information to where they can go out partying and have fun with there friends and maybe family of the same age group. Due to there party life styles they are known to the public to be loud and involved in crime as alcohol that the clubs have supplied have made then commit drunken activities. This magazine helps the public understand why this happens so the public can stop blaming the music as this is what has happened in the past and this is why these genres that my magazine is based on have varied as they some clubs would stop playing them so artists and record companies would have to make a similar sound and just really go for it. However Semi – Quaver lets the public know that it is not the music that is creating this behaviour but the irresponsible people who can handle what they are drinking and decided to blame other because they are not able to take responsibility for there actions. My magazine also represents the radio industry as it has information about Rinse Fm which is a radio station that has help the growth of the genres included.

My magazine will be distributed not only in the UK but also in other country that recognise the music genre in europe, this it because other countries are not exposed to this type of genre as well as people who live in the UK, this will therefore help the genres and let it grow into a more well known and recognised category. Places where my magazine will be distributed on a vases scale will be youth clubs and fashion stores, however there will also be available in a few selected café as it this magazine also appeals to the more mature age group. After the magazine creates a good history of sales my magazine will also be available is all stores, this includes other retailers such as WH smith and Tescos. The magazine may also be sold in clubs and bars.

In the rational I have explained the targeted audience which it early teens to people of there early 30’s, reasons as to this is because of the type of genre and how it have varied over the part years, certain genres died out because of the amount of bad publicity they got from the press, as they where dying out other genres grew out which replaced the older genres, as they where being known for there fans. This genre is not really genre specific and my magazine shows this as in the fashion section it talks about females fashion as well as males, location and class are another areas which is not specific, this therefore opens my magazine to all types of people who just loved past genres which have died out. The target audience for my magazine are people with in there early teens to people of there early 30, this is because this is how long this genre of music has been around. This will therefore allow me to talk about each sub genre equally as some sub genres such as ‘Jungle’ has died out this was mainly because of another sub genre taking over. Both male and female, location would be the whole of the UK but specifically London. People of a working class background as this is the class of the artists and because of this the audience is more likely to engage with them.

I do not think that my magazine addresses its audience as well as I think it could have, if I was to do this again I think this is one of the things I would make sure stands out, apart from the powerful strap line ‘These are the keys take note’ which could connote a lot of things in the music industry such as ‘this magazine is the key for buy it and let it help you as you take notes from it’ this would show that the audience would have to ‘Study’ my magazine to understand it properly.

To help me create my magazine I used the programming software Adobe Photoshop which helped me with effects which follow the traditional forms and conventions and other things such as the effects used in my Contents page and my Double Page Spread. When creating my magazine I did not have all the things I needed, so I did a little bit of visual research to see gain idea and to understand how to use Photoshop I then decided for my masthead I will have a font that had to stand out from others so I went online and found out how to do this, I then downloaded a few fonts and a lot of brushes which I was not to sure about but then learnt how to use them after, brushes such as the green paint on the background of the front cover. This then got me a little bit carried away as I spent a lot of time on combining brushes, I then realised that this is breaking conventions and then that is when I decided I will break them, but to a more understandable extent. In my double page spread the background image of the decks had a little post it note. With Photoshop it allowed me to take it away and make it look as if there was nothing there to begin with, however if zoom into the edited version of my background image you may be able to make out as to where I edited the image. Photoshop helped me cut out ‘DJ Andolini’ carefully and put him on a plain background using different layers, I also made him look like a little bit of a ‘cartoon’ which is the name of the effect which is applied onto him. Scaling this character was also a difficult task and without Photoshop I do not think my magazine would look the way it does now. When it came to adjusting the image Photoshop was a lot better then the previous Microsoft publisher which I used in the first task.

When doing the first task I found it difficult as I was not really sure what to do and how to layout things. After studying media a little more and understand things better I grew more confidence in doing these tasks, the music magazine was well thought out as we had more detailed lessons about how the magazine should look like and understanding why things are put in the right place, I think this task has helped me a lot more and if I was given the chance to do my first task again I would make it look a lot better then it does now. When doing the first task I was using Microsoft Publisher and did not create as good of a job as I should have, however saying that made me want to understand different things a lot better. Doing these two tasks helped me acknowledge magazines a lot more as a lot of thought goes into them before the end up on the shelves in stores.
