DAPHNE HIGH SCHOOL art department

DAPHNE HIGH SCHOOL art department Welcome to the wonderful world of art! My name is Mr. Partridge, and I hope you find this class both rewarding and educational. The following presentation outlines the rules and procedures of the class, and will give you some general information. I am glad that you are in my class and thank you in advance for all you will do to make our class better.

DAPHNE HIGH SCHOOL art department The visual arts program at DHS is based on the principles and practices of nationally recognized and research backed “Choice-Based Art Education.”  Starting with the premise that you are an artist. The classroom becomes a working studio where you will make authentic choices about your own art making. Choice-based art education offers you real choices for responding to your own ideas and interests through the making of art.

art department DAPHNE HIGH SCHOOL The classroom is organized into “studios”, where you will find materials, tools and resources. You will be responsible for setting up your workspace, generating and exploring your ideas based on your experiences, interests, and passions. You will also be responsible for cleaning up and caring for the studio you are working in. You will work at your own pace independently or with peers.

art department DAPHNE HIGH SCHOOL New concepts, content, media and techniques will be delivered in short demonstrations or discussions at the start of class. If you are not currently working on a project, you will work with the new concept or medium. Art history and contemporary topics in the arts are woven into work sessions as appropriate and relevant to the ongoing work of the students. Small groups or individuals can work directly with the instructor when mastering new techniques or solving difficult problems.

DAPHNE HIGH SCHOOL art department Given broad responsibilities and high standards you will be free to explore your own ideas, and find greater meaning and relevance in your work. You will be working as an artist, and making decisions that all artists have to make about their works.

art department What Artist Do DAPHNE HIGH SCHOOL art department What Artist Do In the choice-based art studio, you will do the work of artists. Artists: Remember Observe Imagine Feel Experiment Analyze Research Plan Repeat Create Interpret Distort Invent Symbolize Investigate Transform

Take about 22 seconds to do so. DAPHNE HIGH SCHOOL art department Turn to the person next to you, introduce yourself, and tell them something “Artist Do” from the list we just talked about. Take about 22 seconds to do so.

Your grade will be composed of the following: DAPHNE HIGH SCHOOL art department Your grade will be composed of the following: Daily project assessments: 55% Common assessments: 5% Reflective writing assignments: 10% Portfolio assessment: 20% Midterm / Final exam: 10%
