Attendance/Tardies If your child arrives to school after 8:50, they are tardy. Please have them stop at the front desk for a tardy slip. It is very important to have your child to school on time every day, as interventions are done first thing after announcements. If your child is absent, please send an absence note in their binder upon their arrival back at school.

Dress Code No flip flops. Closed-toed shoes are best. Sneakers must be worn on P.E. days. No spaghetti straps; sleeves must be 4 fingers wide. Shorts, skirts, and dresses must be at least mid-thigh length long.

Rules and Expectations Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself. Listen to the teacher and follow directions. Be kind to others. Work, play, and travel safely. Expectations: Do your best work. Pay attention and participate in class. Solve problems using words. Use inside voices and walking feet.

Behavior Green: Excellent! All greens in a week= treasure box!  Yellow: Warning. Lose treasure box.  Orange: I lost half of my recess and/or I had a time out.  Red: I lost all of my recess and/or I was removed from the room. The teacher will contact you.  

Car Rider Dismissal Car Riders: Please follow procedures and directions from school personnel. Please have your school-supplied card. Please do not talk on your cell phone when picking up your child. Boarding on school side only. SAFETY is #1

S.T.A.R. Binder Please initial daily where it says Parent initials Take out all papers in “Enjoy my Work from School” side of green folder. Check for homework in the blue folder. Make sure you fill out the monthly reading log nightly. You can write notes to me in the agenda. Encourage your child to remember to give it to you nightly and put it back in their backpack before bed.

Homework PLEASE READ THE COVER OF THE HOMEWORK PACKET WEEKLY FOR NEWSLETTER AND ANNOUNCEMENTS. Students are expected to read 20 minutes EVERY night (independent or with a parent). Can be any book of their choice, but AR books are preferred. Please record books and minutes on your monthly reading log.

Homework continued Homework Packets are sent home on Mondays and due Fridays. Math Homework is sent home 1-4 times per week and is due the following day. Mondays will usually have 2 math homeworks (one from Friday’s lesson and one from Monday’s) Log on to websites twice per week. Study for spelling test and math challenge. Homework will have points taken off if it is late. Students are responsible for putting their own homework into their homework folder in their binder and also responsible for turning it in in the morning. Teacher does not load anything into binders for them.

Homework Expectations All homework should be done in PENCIL. Pictures should be colored with crayon (not pencil). Directions should always be read and followed. Students should be able to do the majority of homework independently as I only send homework as extra practice of concepts already taught in class. Your help should be minimal. Students should ALWAYS write in complete sentences with proper capitalization, punctuation, and spaces. Students should write EVERYTHING themselves. Parents SHOULD NOT write on homework at all, except to sign.

Absences- Homework If your child is absent from school, an “Absent Folder” will come home with work missed from school. Please have your child complete all work in absent folder as soon as possible, or up to a week upon returning to school. Work not completed will be marked “Missing” in the grade book. Absent Folder

AR (Accelerated Reader) Children are expected to be reading both in school and at home for 20 minutes per night. Look up books on www.arbookfind.com Students take a quiz on the book and earn points if they pass. Most picture books are ½ point and most chapter books are 1+ points, depending on length and difficulty. Students try to reach point goal by the end of each nine weeks. If they do, they get to eat lunch with Mrs. Dunbar! Earn a red ticket for passing with 80% or higher- Drawing for a prize on Fridays. Other prizes for earning 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, and 100 points.

Math Challenge Timed math test on basic addition and subtraction facts Must get 30 or more facts correct in 90 seconds to move on to the next level. Will be given once a week on Wednesdays. Your child will record his/her progress in her STAR binder. Practice each week with flashcards, your own timed tests, dice games, sumdog.com, playkidsgames.com, etc. Will start next Wednesday, 9/26.

Science and Social Studies Science topics include: matter, rocks and soil, energy and motion, magnets, weather, human body, life cycles, habitats, and more. Social Studies topics include: rules and laws, the Constitution, character education, money and markets, cultures, scientists and inventors, USA, Florida, Native Americans, communities, technology, Pilgrims, maps and globes, and more.

Audubon PTA and ADDitions Please sign up for PTA!. Meetings are optional, not required. PTA benefits many aspects of our school. ADDitions- If you would like to volunteer in our room or go on any field trip, you need to sign up to be an ADDitions volunteer at www.volunteer.ocps.net
