Proposed Alternative to the Curved Wall Concept Friends of the Orange Depot By J David Derosier 1

Where to Put Utilities? Mechanical room too small for electrical panels inside. Exterior HVAC components make noise and detract from historic nature when viewed. 2

Rooms Too Small 3

Curved Wall Solution 1.Place electrical panels and controls on exterior of building, outside mechanical room. 2.Place exterior HVAC components outside of building outside mechanical room. 3.Construct Curved Wall to conceal components in 1 and 2 above from view. – 6-foot tall curved masonry wall, – Approximately 23 linear feet across front of bldg. 4

Curved Wall Solution 5

Electric Panels Trash Container Curved Wall Exterior HVAC 6

Curved Wall Solution Electric Panels Trash Container Curved Wall Exterior HVAC Cramped ADA Toilet Awkward Wall 7

Results of Curved Wall Solution Isolates Depot building from rest of campus Removes potential to use 200’+/- of raised ground at same elevation as building for stage area facing rest of campus. Adds to extremely long distance from proposed parking lot to Primary Entrance. 8

Curved Wall Solution Isolates Depot from Campus Cuts up 200’ +/- Stage ADA Access Too Far 9

Proposed Alternative 1.Add 2 L-shaped exterior walls to left and right of proposed bathroom and mechanical room for expansion via existing exterior doorways. 2.Lower ceiling height over central portion of interior. 3.Add new concrete sidewalk pads in front of entrance doors (east side) 4.Construct flat roof over lowered ceiling and behind façade to accommodate exterior HVAC components. With support rod for façade with possible gabled roof with ventilation – or no gabled roof. 10

1 2 2 New ceiling height over central area New external walls (L-shape) 11 Existing Ceiling Height 11

1 New external walls (L-shape) 11 3 New concrete sidewalk pads 33 2 New ceiling height over central area 2 Both Bathroom and Utility Room expanded through pre-existing exterior doorways 12

4 New space for exterior HVAC equipment 4 Hidden behind façade and sidewall Façade Gabled roof of material to allow airflow or left open with rod to support façade Also allows for exterior electrical to service holiday and/or festival stage lighting. Gable Roof Flat roof over lower ceiling. New stack from ADA bathroom provides for drainage. 13

Results of Proposed Alternate Mechanical room is enlarged for electrical panels inside. Exterior HVAC noise dissipated upwards away from visitors, and components hidden from view. Depot building not isolated from rest of campus Potential to use 200’+/- of raised ground at same elevation as building for stage area facing rest of campus. Exterior electrical could service holiday lighting and/or festival/stage lighting. Extremely long distance from proposed parking lot to Primary Entrance can be addressed with steps/ramp from 11 th street, or other solution. 14

Other Issues with existing plans Museum side is marked for dual-use as conference room – plus reception room. Primary Entrance is very long distance from proposed parking area and sole handicapped parking space. ADA toilet area very small.* Multi-angle dividing wall for mechanical room gives appearance of an after-thought.* *Proposed Solution addresses these issues 15
