3 Project Information Natty Boh Building Penn State AEEric SingleySchematic Lighting Proposal Building Statistics:  Overall Building Size : 189,550 ft 2.  Maximum Height : 9 stories  Multi-purpose: office, storage, residential, commercial Building Character:  Old home of the Gunther Brewing Company.  Consists of 6 sections of differing heights.  Declared a historic place in 2002.

7 Day Care Center Natty Boh Building Penn State AEEric SingleySchematic Lighting Proposal Design Goals  Separate the spaces by function.  Focus on the children’s area, all other spaces are support.  Create a comfortable atmosphere for the children to spend the day in.  Possible Ideas: Playful, Safe  Make use of the large windows to introduce daylighting to the space.  1.5 Watts per square foot allowed.  CCT 5000 to match daylight in space.

8 Day Care Center Natty Boh Building Penn State AEEric SingleySchematic Lighting Proposal Design Solution  Separate the spaces.  Linear fluorescents in circulation spaces leading toward sub- spaces.  Atmosphere Ideas.  Suspend ceiling in children’s area for a more enclosed “safe” space.  Create multi-level ceiling and add colored light for visual interest.  Daylighting concerns  Use zoned switching to shut off lights near windows during the daytime.

14 Lobby Natty Boh Building Penn State AEEric SingleySchematic Lighting Proposal Design Solution  Linear fluorescent’s directing customers down the stairs and into the space upon entering.  CFL downlights over each of the desk areas.  Spot lamps washing ceiling along 1’6” indent in lower section.  Linear wall-washers along wall in lower section and on the angled portion of the 2-story area.  CCT of 5000K to mimic daylight and make the lobby appear more spacious.

Front / Side1: 1 to 3 Front / Side2 : 1 to 1.5 Front / Top: 2 to 3.5 - Prevent spill of light onto camera and monitor located in the front of the room
