Space Tasks  Primarily play and learning area for small children.  Light kitchen use.

Day Care Center Natty Boh Building Penn State AEEric SingleySchematic Lighting Proposal

Day Care Center Natty Boh Building Penn State AEEric SingleySchematic Lighting Proposal Design Goals  Separate the spaces by function with lighting.  Create a more ‘playful’ atmosphere within the child care area.  Make use of the large windows to introduce daylighting to the space.  Flynn mode – Relaxed. Power Density  1.5 Watts per square foot allowed.

Day Care Center Natty Boh Building Penn State AEEric SingleySchematic Lighting Proposal Design Solution  Drop ceiling to 9’.  Recessed linear fluorescent downlights in walkways.  Recessed CFL downlights in childrens’ area and kitchen.  Under-cabinet lights in kitchen.  LED color spots on columns.

Day Care Center Natty Boh Building Penn State AEEric SingleySchematic Lighting Proposal Daylight Integration  Kitchen lights and window- side children’s are lights on their own circuit. Use Photometric sensor with manual override for control.

Lobby Natty Boh Building Penn State AEEric SingleySchematic Lighting Proposal Space Properties  Floor Area ≈ 2500 ft 2  Ceiling at 8 ft and 21.5 ft  No windows  Entrances on both levels Space Tasks  Light office work  Display of model storage unit  Sales / Receptionist desks

Lobby Natty Boh Building Penn State AEEric SingleySchematic Lighting Proposal

Lobby Natty Boh Building Penn State AEEric SingleySchematic Lighting Proposal Design Goals  Accentuate the double height ceiling.  Direct customers from entrances to the sales desk.  Provide a non-complex design solution.  Flynn mode – Spacious. Power Density  1.3 Watts per square foot allowed.

Lobby Natty Boh Building Penn State AEEric SingleySchematic Lighting Proposal

Lobby Natty Boh Building Penn State AEEric SingleySchematic Lighting Proposal Design Solution  CFL downlights over desks.  Recessed CFL downlights in 9’6” portion lower ceiling.  Linear fluorescent wallwash along open wall.  Wallwashers on 21 ft walls to accent their height.

Conference Room Natty Boh Building Penn State AEEric SingleySchematic Lighting Proposal Space Properties  Floor Area : 150 ft 2  Ceiling at 8 ft  Conference table with chairs  No windows Space Tasks  Professional and Casual conferences  Possible light video conferencing

Conference Room Natty Boh Building Penn State AEEric SingleySchematic Lighting Proposal

Conference Room Natty Boh Building Penn State AEEric SingleySchematic Lighting Proposal Design Goals  Create a comfortable yet professional environment.  Provide flexibility to accommodate different uses. Including:  Presentations  Video conferencing  Roundtable discussion  Flynn mode – Spacious/Focused Power Density  1.5 Watts per square foot allowed

Conference Room Natty Boh Building Penn State AEEric SingleySchematic Lighting Proposal Roundtable Discussion  Recessed CFL downlights on the conference table.  Linear Fluorescents washing walls and ceiling to provide ambient lighting.

Conference Room Natty Boh Building Penn State AEEric SingleySchematic Lighting Proposal Presentation  Ambient lighting remains on.  Reduce the number of downlights on the conference table.  Two spot lamps on podium.

Conference Room Natty Boh Building Penn State AEEric SingleySchematic Lighting Proposal Video Conferencing  Dimmed ambient lighting.  Spot lamps on individual faces.  Downlights on table reduced further.

Exterior Natty Boh Building Penn State AEEric SingleySchematic Lighting Proposal Space Properties  Ground Area : 37,050 ft 2  Surrounded on 3 sides by buildings  Historically significant Space Tasks  Parking for Natty Boh Building  Entrance to the building

Exterior Natty Boh Building Penn State AEEric SingleySchematic Lighting Proposal

Exterior Natty Boh Building Penn State AEEric SingleySchematic Lighting Proposal Design Goals  Provide sufficient light to allow drivers to read signs and see parking lines.  Call attention to the building entrances.  Achieve 100% Dark Sky compliance.  Maintain similar luminaire appearance. Power Density  0.3 Watts per square foot allowed

Exterior Natty Boh Building Penn State AEEric SingleySchematic Lighting Proposal Design Solution  Spotlight building entrances.  Prevent spill into windows.  Keep light poles on existing islands.
