Independent VS Dependent Clause Expresses a complete thought It can stand alone as a SENTENCE. AKA Subordinate Clause Contains a subject and a verb but DOES NOT express a COMPLETE THOUGHT. It cannot stand alone. Santa’s round figure is DEPENDENT on his consumption of cookies.

Making a Dependent Clause Work To express a complete thought, a dependent clause must be combined with, or be part of an independent clause. Genes contain the code that determines your height.

Independent Clause AKA Sentence Every sentence has two basic parts: A subject- tells whom or what the sentence is about. A predicate- tells what the subject is or does or what happens to the subject.
