Abstract המעבדה למערכות ספרתיות מהירות High speed digital systems laboratory 2 In this project a communication card prototype for the Electrical Laboratory experiment boards was developed. This card allows the communication between the board and a PC using an USB interface. This link allows the students to enter their experiment results to the pc and get in real time the grade from the pc. Until today these boards have been linked to the pc using a RS232 interface. Such interface is being replaced in the modern PC by a USB interface. As a result, peripheral equipment interfaces must be replaced too in order to be compatible. The principal constraint in this project was to adopt a modern technology, like the USB interface, to an existing obsolete system. To reach this objective we combined different parts of the existing card circuit with the modern Cyclone FPGA.

System description המעבדה למערכות ספרתיות מהירות High speed digital systems laboratory 3 The system includes a printed circuit board that includes a FPGA and USB transmit/receive adapter and an interface card, which connects the FPGA to the experiment board. A PC application allows the user to enter 3 numbers – board type, board number and draw number. The FPGA gets this numbers through the USB. It first checks for correctness of the board type and number and activate the buzzer on the interface card. Then, using the draw number, the FPGA activate a counter on the experiment board until the counter’s output match to the draw number. This causes a specific circuit in experiment board to be used.

Specification המעבדה למערכות ספרתיות מהירות High speed digital systems laboratory Hardware Software 4 A printed circuit consists of: a Cyclone FPGA, a USB communication module, transceivers etc. A wire-up card consists of: a relay, a buzzer, dip switches etc. A C++ application which establishes connection with the DLP and allows the user to enter data to be sent to the FPGA, and prints the results.
