A.Background 1.The French had claims all over North America much like Spain had 2.Most Frenchmen were Fur traders 3.Could the 13 colonies expand any further in any direction?

I. Competition A.France, England, and some Native American groups started competing in the Fur Market B.This competition led to military alliances with natives joining both sides C.France and England declared war on each other to determine who would control the northern and eastern parts of North America

II. How it started A.English fur trappers moved into the Ohio valley around The French retaliated by attacking a small British settlement B.1753 Lieutenant governor of Virginia sent George Washington and a small group of men to tell the French to leave

III. War Begins A.George Washington builds Fort Necessity 1.French attack the fort and win B.General Braddock is defeated by French and Indian forces- 1.Washington had 2 horses shot out from under him (4 bullets through coat) 1000 die
