France claimed much of North America west of the Appalachian Mountains The British (England) had claimed land on the Atlantic Ocean French and British traded beaver fur with different Native American groups British colonists moved into the Ohio River valley to find more fur (French territory) French built forts to keep the British out

3 Treaty of Paris (1763) When fighting ended in all parts of the world there was peace The French and Indian War ended with the Treaty of Paris (1763)

4 Effects of the French and Indian War
Britain defeated France. Britain won control of all of North America east of the Mississippi River Spain gained New Orleans and French territory west of the Mississippi River Native American revolt against the British (Pontiac’s Rebellion) British ban colonists from settling west of the Appalachian Mountains (Proclamation of 1763) Colonist get angry with the British
