The Role of the Carer Purpose of Role To provide independent living and enable service users to live in their own home by providing personal care and practical assistance. Key Tasks Assists the service user with personal needs where necessary and appropriate e.g. getting up in the morning, washing / bathing and dressing; helping with undressing and getting to bed in the evening. Provide assistance with household and domestic tasks, e.g. laundry, shopping, cleaning, and financial transactions such as paying bills. To make meals, drinks and snacks where necessary. Assist with toileting needs including in some cases management of catheters and stoma care, changing clothes and bed linen where necessary. To empty and clean commodes, wash and iron clothes and bed linen where necessary. Promote, respect and uphold the dignity of service users at all times. Participate in and actively support activities to promote the dignity of service users, their families and carers.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience Qualifications and Experience Caring experience either in a professional or personal capacity Good general level of education, including basic reading and writing skills Commitment to undertake necessary further training, including NVQ Level 2 Driving licence and daily access to car Skills and Ability Ability to communicate verbally and in writing Ability to work on own initiative without direct supervision Ability to undertake manual handling tasks Ability to keep calm in emergency situations Attitude Flexible manner Commitment to customer care Patience Values diversity and shows commitment to equality of opportunity Values health and safety and shows a commitment to ensuring a safe working environment

You will however need an understanding nature and value base, a commitment to providing a high quality service and a flexible approach, as you will have to be prepared to work early mornings (7am to 10am), evenings (4pm to 8pm) and weekends; when we have our highest volume of work.
