You will find everything you need in this tutorial to maximize your online tutoring experience. The following slides provide… A) a brief description of who is eligible to receive online tutoring B) step-by-step instructions on how to receive online tutoring C) step-by-step instructions on how to save the work that was done during the online tutoring session. If you have any questions, you may contact the Instructional Support Lab (ISL) at

 Online tutoring is provided to students who are enrolled in an online Finite Mathematics course.  Tutoring is done on a first-come, first-served basis.  Students who would like to receive online tutoring will need to call the ISL during the times that online tutoring is available. (For a list of times, please visit our website or call us at ).

1. Call the ISL at during the times when online tutoring is available. 2. Be prepared to provide… Your name: Major: Course: Professor’s Name: Student S#: AUM student address:

3. An will be sent to your AUM account that will allow you to enter the tutoring session. When you open your , you will see a link. You will need to click on that link. (If the link is not active, then you will need to copy and paste the link to your internet browser.)

4. You will receive the following “Session Login” prompt. Please type in your first and last name into the “Name” box so that our tutors will know who you are. Then click on the “Log In” box.

5. You may be shown the following “meeting.jnlp” box. If this happens, Click “Open”.

6. Click “Run” to allow all essential software to be downloaded to your computer.

7. You will be shown the following “Blackboard Collaborate” box. When you see this box, click “Accept”.

8. You will then need to state the connection speed of your server. (It is highly recommended that you use a computer that has a reasonably fast internet connection in order to maximize the online tutoring experience.) Once you select your connection speed, click “OK”.

9. The tutoring room is essentially a big online whiteboard. You and your tutor will communicate through a combination of audio (microphone and speakers) and visual (text and drawings created on the whiteboard) aids. If you have an activated microphone (most laptops do), please click on the “Talk” button located at the top left part of the page (see picture below).

 During the first tutoring session, be prepared to troubleshoot any technical issues and to experiment with the features within the online tutoring program.  The computer that you use will need working speakers and a microphone so that you may communicate with your tutor.  Your tutor will help you become familiar with these features.

10. At the end of the tutoring session, you will have the opportunity to save the work that was done on the online whiteboard. Saving your work will allow you to reference your work in the future. The following slides will illustrate how easy it is to save your work.

1. Go to File  Save  Whiteboard

2. Since you will likely want to save all of the work done during the session, select the “All Pages” option, and then click “Ok”.

3. You will need to a) Select where to save the file, b) Name the file, and c) SAVE THE FILE AS A PDF FILE. (Otherwise, the saved file will be effectively worthless.) The following slide illustrates how to save your work to a PDF file.
