1 Humans of Kent Count Technical Guide

2 Audio In this section, we’ll learn how to make a voice recording of your Humans of Kent County subject interviews, and upload them to the cloud.

3 iPhone Set Up In the App Store, search for “tapmedia voice recorder.” This is a free app that has easy recording and easy upload to the cloud built in. When you find it, download the app. This is how the icon will appear:

4 iPhone Recording When you first open the app. It will look like this. To begin recording, click the microphone icon. Note: the first time, it will try to get you to upgrade to a paid version. You may need to close and reopen the app, then it will work normally.

5 iPhone Recording This is the record screen. You can name your file before or after you record. “TAP TO NAME” will allow you to name a file. Please use the name(s) of your subjects to name your recordings.

6 iPhone Recording Once your recording is named, tap the red record button at the bottom of your screen to begin your interview. Tap stop to end recording. When you are done with a recording, tapping done will take you back to the home screen.

7 iPhone Transcribing Your recordings will appear in a list on your home screen. You will need to listen to them to identify your subject’s quote for the project. To listen, tap the file you want to hear.

8 iPhone Set Up Your recording will start playing immediately. Use the controls at the bottom to pause, rewind, fast- forward and repeat as needed to transcribe your quote.

9 iPhone Transcribing Once you are done listening, click the “Upload” icon at the top of the screen to save the audio to the cloud. Next we’ll walk through how to set your files to save to RiverArts Google Drive. ↵

10 iPhone Google Drive First tap “Upload to cloud.”

11 iPhone – Google Drive Select “Google Drive” Tap the plus sign to link a Google Drive account.

12 iPhone – Google Drive Sign in using the special credentials provided for the project. You will see a folder called “Humans Recordings.” This is the folder where you will save your recordings. Tap to open the folder.

13 iPhone – Google Drive Tap “Upload” and the file will be saved to the drive. We are asking for all files to be saved this way for 2 reasons. First, the audio recordings can take up memory on your phone. By saving to the cloud, you keep your phone free for your own use. Second, we need to keep the records. This is an oral history project. Though we are printing the photos and quotes from our subjects, we want to keep the original recordings for future reference.

14 Tumblr Guide Submitting your pieces to the Humans of Kent County Tumblr Page is easy. There are 2 ways to access the page. Type “Humans” in the search bar on the RiverArts home page and follow the link. Type humansofkentcounty.tumblr.com

15 Tumblr Guide To submit a photo and quote, click on the menu at the top of the screen Then follow the “Submit” link.

16 Tumblr Guide On the submission screen, change the type from “Text” to “Photo”

17 Tumbler Guide Add your first and last name and email address in the fields provided.* Click on “Choose a photo” and select the photo you want to submit. Enter your subject’s quote in the caption box. Check the “Accept Terms” Box. Click “Submit.” That’s it! Now it come to us for scheduling. If we have any questions, we’ll contact you but otherwise, you’ll automatically be notified by the system when your piece is scheduled. * Note that if you are already a Tumbler user and you are logged in, your profile information will auto-populate the fields.

18 Tumblr for iPhone It is possible to submit your pieces through your iPhone. To do this you must have the Tumblr app and you must be a registered user.

19 Tumblr for iPhone Locate the “Humans of Kent County” blog by using the search icon at the bottom of the screen. Tap the blog when you find it.

20 Tumblr for iPhone To submit, click the letter icon at the top of the screen. A pop-up will give you the option to “Submit.”

21 Tumblr for iPhone Tap the “Photo” icon to submit a photo, then click on “OK” to allow Tumblr to access your iPhone photos.

22 Tumblr for iPhone Tap the photo you want to upload then tap “Next.” The photo you have selected will display. Scroll down to the bottom to add your subject’s quote in the caption box. When you are done, tap “Submit” at the top. A notification will be sent to the curators to review, and you will be notified when your piece has been added to the blog.
