Inspection of Food-grains A committee of the following is constituted for inspection of food-grains at FCI Godowns before lifting food-grain. 1. The District Education Officer 2. STORAGE OF FOOD GRAINS Food grains are lifted from the FCI Godowns as per requirement on monthly basis. Wheat – is stored at the departmental store and from there sent to Flour Mill for grinding purposes. Atta is distributed to cooking institutes/schools as per their requirements. Rice – is stored at the departmental stores and is distributed to cooking institutes/schools as per their requirements.

Transportation Arrangements Food grains are transported by Big Trucks from FCI Godown to Departmental stores and from stores to cooking sites by Mini trucks. Cooked meals are transported to schools by mini trucks.

Best/Innovative Practices Kitchen gardens have been setup in the schools which have school based kitchens from which fresh brinjal, palak, coriander, garlic, methi, mint etc is used for the preparation of MDM. CCTV Cameras have been installed in centralized kitchens and school based kitchens. Kitchen waste is utilized for preparation of compost for kitchen gardens. School Teachers, Supervisors, Inspectors and Storekeeper related to MDM were got trained from Chandigarh Institute of Hotel Management. All the Officers from other departments of Chandigarh Administration monitor of MDM activities, at the cooking institutes/school levels. They check the taste, quality, quantity of MDM and hygiene. Proposals SMS based system is going to be introduced for getting daily report about Meals Received, Meals Served & Attendance from the schools We are going to introduce revised menu shortly prepared by Dietician of PGI, Professor of Home Science College and Principal/Secretary of CIHM & AIHM to enhance the coverage & consumption of MDM.
