The United Monarchy The United Monarchy was a period of time between 1050 BC-930 BC. Within this time period, 12 confederate tribes unite and create the Kingdom of Israel. 1050BC – 930 BC

The United Monarchy The Kingdom of Israel then fall under a line of kings… 1050BC – 930 BC

Here’s an example of how the region looked like before David united the tribes. (You don’t really have to remember these.)

These tribes fall under the rules of these kings: –Samuel –Saul –David –Solomon Whom are found in 1 Samuel, 2 Samuel, and 1 Kings of the Bible.

1 Samuel The book of 1 Samuel is where it begins. This mainly focuses and can be separated into two sections: –Prophet Samuel –The rule of Saul Where it begins Samuel Saul

1 Samuel Eli Eli’s Assistant Calling from God 1 Samuel is mainly about Samuel who grew up as an assistant of Eli, a priest. One day when he was with Eli, he heard a calling from God to lead the people.

1 Samuel Desire for a King Samuel leads the people of Israel as a prophet, but he was not a king.

1 Samuel Warns the people of rule under a king. Like other nations, the people wanted a king. Samuel knew it was not always best to be ruled under a king. So He tries to warn the people.

1 Samuel But Samuel anoints Saul, a man from the tribe of Benjamin. And so Saul becomes the first king of Israel.

1 Samuel – Saul’s rule Saul was actually a effective ruler. Studying the bible, we can separate Saul (David and Solomon as well) into good and bad points Saul Good and bad points

1 Samuel – Saul’s rule Then came the fall of his rule. Bad Points: He was disobedient to God. He was unreasonable at times: He almost kills his son, Jonathon. He almost went to war with the Philistines weaponless and weak. Unreason- able actions disobedient

2 Samuel – David’s rise and his kingship Saul’s foolish actions cost him his kingship. Samuel disapproved these actions of Saul and so God sends Samuel to find another king. Samuel finds David, who seemed to be fit for king. Samuel disapproves Finds David

2 Samuel – David’s rise and his kingship In the beginning chapters of 2 Samuel, Saul still tries to murder David. But in a battle against the Philistines, Saul ends up killing himself. Suicide of Saul

2 Samuel – David’s rise and his kingship David was then anointed king of all of Israel. David was also a good leader, but his bad points also lead to his downfall. David is king of all of Israel.

2 Samuel – David’s rise and his kingship The many Good Points of his Rule: He unites the twelve tribes of Israel He brings the Ark of the Covenant into Jerusalem and makes it the capital city. Twelve tribes united Jerusalem becomes the capital.

2 Samuel – David’s Downfall But David committed A mistake that ruined His household. David falls for a girl named Bathsheba. He commits adultery with her, and then kills her husband, Uriah. Commits adultery with Bathsheba.

2 Samuel – David’s Downfall David does repent, And God forgives him After his relations With Batsheba, his Son, Abasalom, rebels. Absalom dies when the rebellion is crushed. Absalom dies

2 Samuel – David’s Downfall It seems as if David’s sins lead to his son’s death and a famine spreads across Israel for several years. When David dies, his reign is passed onto his son, Solomon. His double sin haunts him Passed on leadership

1 Kings – Solomon’s Rule In 1 Kings, it talks about the rule of Solomon, and the end of the Kingdom of Israel. Solomon, Decline of Monarchy

1 Kings – Solomon’s Rule Solomon, King David’s son, was chosen king after David died. Solomon was known as a wise king. He is also noted for his wisdom in the story of the baby and the two mothers. Good king Wise king

1 Kings – Solomon’s Rule He is known for completing the building of The Temple of God, first temple ever built. According to the bible, it took 7 years. He also conducted other great projects across the land of Israel. 7 years Temple of God

1 Kings – Solomon’s Rule But like David, Solomon also committed adultery. He had many wives He also committed idolatry with his wives. Adultery and Idolatry

And the United Monarchy splits… After Solomon’s death, there was tension between northern and southern Israel. Under the rule of Rehaboam, son of Solomon, the Kingdom of Israel splits.

And the United Monarchy splits… The Northern Kingdom was Israel, which contained 10 tribes. And The Southern Kingdom was Judah, which contained 2 tribes.
