Pre-Registration & Curriculum Night Riverside Brookfield High School January 14, 2015

Riverside Brookfield High School is a partnership of parents, students, staff, Board of Education, elementary schools and community. This academic partnership will provide a comprehensive education in a safe, orderly, well-equipped environment. All students will be prepared with the intellectual, aesthetic, vocational, physical, personal and social skills necessary to be responsible and effective members of a diverse and changing world.

 All placement change considerations must be submitted to the Placement Committee using the online Placement Change Request Form.  The deadline for all placement change considerations is January 21,  If you do not receive a call or , consider your request granted.  The online form is available at

Step 1:  Copy the core courses your student has been recommended for (pink form) next to the corresponding course name (green form)

Step 2:  Select electives using o Course Options List o Graduation Requirements/4-year Plan Form o The online Curriculum Guide Think about trying something new!

 Applied Arts  English  Fine Arts  World Languages  Students placed in Reading are not advised to take a World Language or Western Civilization Freshman year

 Some students have been recommended for Academic Support  Help with organization and study skills  Homework support and help provided  Communication between school and home  Study Hall is offered every period of the day  Freshmen will take either 6 or 7 academic courses

Depending on placement scores, students may have been recommended for Extended Reading and/or Extended Algebra  Extended Reading (1.5 periods) Takes the place of Western Civilization  Extended Algebra (1.5 periods)  Extended Reading AND Extended Algebra = Full period of Academic Support  Only Extended Reading OR only Extended Algebra = ½ period of Academic Support  Electives might not be possible freshman year

Please select alternative electives in the event that a first choice elective is not available

 3.5 credits of PE are required (.5 credit each semester) .5 credit in Health (Sophomore year)  Course options for Freshman Year…  Boys PE 9  Girls PE 9  Dance Techniques

 2 Credits in Cultural & Applied Studies (Applied Arts, Fine Arts, and/or World Language) are required for graduation  Course options for Freshman Year…  French (Level I or II)  Spanish (Level I or II)  German I  Heritage Speakers (Level I or II)  Level II placements will require additional testing
