PSAT Mandatory for all Sophomores October 16, :00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Take Sophomore year for practice You must take the PSAT during your Junior year to qualify to be a National Merit Scholarship Finalist
CAHSEE California High School Exit Exam 1 section Math 1 section English Language If either Math or English are passed, that section will not have to be taken again If either Math or English are not passed, there are multiple chances to retake Both sections must be passed to receive a LACHSA diploma. Sophomore Test Dates March 18 – English March 19 - Math
Grades and Credits “ D ” grades = 5.0 credits Students earn credit for high school graduation – a “ D ” grade will not count for college admission. “ F ” grades = 0 credits If you fail a required course (English, Math, History etc.) you MUST make it up in summer school.
Attendance Policy A student success is directly tied to attendance. A student who is absent three (3) times or more (unexcused) during any given semester may receive an “ F ” for the course at the discretion of the teacher. If your child is absent from class, you should do the following: Download the Absence Form found on the LACHSA website at lachsa.net. This signed form by the parent needs to be returned to the Main Office no later than 3 days after the last absence. Please note: After three (3) school days, uncleared absences become truancies.
Transcripts Please check to make sure your 9 th grade and summer classes are accurate. New students – verify your information from your previous school is transferred accurately.
Honor Society and Clubs California Scholarship Federation (CSF) Emphasizes high standards of scholarship and community service for high school students. - Grades 10 – 12 - Academic Requirements - Coordinator – Mr. Freedman Clubs include: From the ground up, Basic, You are the mission through Christ, Interact, GSA, Japanese 101, and Theatrok.
Support for Academic Success Talk to your teachers! – Office hours are Mon & Wed 7:15-8:00am Free Peer Tutoring – CSF students are assigned through Mr. Freedman. Free University Tutorial Center – Library Palmer Wing Room Call for an appointment Private outside tutors – local community college
