3 Distinguished Plan  Additional Requirements  3 rd credit in Foreign Language  IPC not eligible  Cohort/Class of 2015 only:  STAAR – Junior year testing  4 additional measures :  Research project – ISM (Independent Study Mentorship)  AP Test scores (3 or better)  College Courses ( B or better)

4 District Graduation Policy  Students must complete all required coursework in order to participate in the graduation ceremony.  Students must also pass the Exit Level TAKS or STAAR requirements to receive a diploma.

9  What we know:  More rigorous  Tests on specific subject area:  English, Biology, W. Geography and  Current Math  Minimum score each year required When: Week of March 26 th

10 Semesters & Credits  Treat semesters like the end of the year  Semester average determines credit .5 credit per semester class  Semester average is on your permanent record  Semester Averaging – average of both semesters to determine final credit- (failing grade will still show on transcript)

11 How is semester average calculated? 1 st 6 weeks grade: 75 2 nd 6 weeks grade: 70 3 rd 6 weeks grade: 70 (75+70+70)/3 = 72 Average: 72 x.80 = 57.6 Semester Exam 55 x.20 = 11 Add together to get semester average 57.6 + 11.0 = 68.6 Sem. Ave = 69 This would not be “bumped up” to a 70 – a 69 is an F.

12 GPA & Class Rank  GPA - Grade Point Average (Example: 3.62) Shows personal performance 4.0 and 5.0 scale shown on transcript 5.0 scale reflects Honors classes  Class Rank Shows comparison to other students based on GPA 9th grade is important  Example: Graduating Class of 2012 – 399  Top 10% - 1 – 39 - Top 20% - 1 – 79

14 TESTING REASONS TO TAKE PSAT  College readiness preparation  Experience gained for entrance exam, SAT  Opportunity for scholarships  Juniors may qualify for National Merit program announced in September 2012  District pays for all 10 th graders.  The cost for juniors is $14.00.  The date of the test is Wednesday, October 12.  Juniors register through Mrs. Grillet  by Sept. 22 nd (table at Open House)
