2 Counselor’s Role Encourage you to do your best Assist you in scheduling classes that will help you to meet your goals (Graduation/4 year school/2 year/Military) Provide sounding board and advice on how to be successful in your classes. If I’m not there, leave a note!

3 What You Do In High School Matters

4 Success at REV Be on time, be prepared, be respectful of yourself and others, and be responsible. Use an agenda to organize your assignments and important dates. Turn in all of your assignments Get help! Peer tutoring is available in the Career Center.

5 Extra Curricular Colleges want to see more than good grades. Keep records of the following: Community Service Volunteer Work (This includes Church) Sports Clubs (Leadership experience) Part Time Jobs

6 Redlands East Valley Graduation Requirements The minimum requirements for graduation include: 4 years of English 2 years of Math (Alg. 1 or equivalent) (4 years) 3 years of Social Studies 2 years of Science (1 yr. Life, 1 yr. Physical) (3 years) 2 years of P.E. 1 yr Fine Art or Foreign Lang. (1 yr. art AND 2 yr. foreign lang. ) 1 semester of Health 1 semester of Physical Geography (9 th grade req.) 80 Elective Credits

7 Redlands East Valley Graduation Requirements (continued) 225 credits are required for graduation. Students earn approximately 60 credits each year. All students are required to pass the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE)

10 Community College (2 years) Complete a vocational training program (fire academy, child care, x-ray tech, mechanical/automotive programs…) or Spend two years earning 60 units (general education requirements), transfer to Cal State / UC / private university based on Community College academic status High School Diploma needed

11 College or University (4 years) Public Colleges: 10 UC’s exist. Admission more difficult 23 Cal States exist. Some more difficult to enter than others Private Schools: Broad range of Admission Standards and Policies

12 Offer specialized training in a particular industry or career. Possible programs of study include: culinary arts firefighting dental hygiene medical-records technology. Vocational, Technical and Career Colleges

14 Four Year Plans Fill them out! What do you think you’ll be doing after high school. Better to plan for a four year school now. Be in a position to choose later.
