2 College Application Deadlines California State University -October 1st -November 30th University of California -November 1st -November 30th Private Colleges – (Usually end of Dec. or Jan.) Look up deadlines! Community Colleges -April/May –Cost: UC $70.00 per campus –CSU $55.00 per campus –CC Free Some colleges accept FEE WAIVERS (Please ask counselor for more information)

3 College Entrance Examinations ACT (CSU, UC & most Private Colleges) Areas of study: Science, Math, Critical Reading Composite Score: 36 SAT Reasoning Test (CSU, UC & most Private Colleges) Critical Reading 800 Math 800 Writing (Essay) 800 Composite Total: 2400 Register on-line www.collegeboard.com or www.actstudent.org

4 SAT/ACT Test Details All exams must be completed by December. (check individual colleges some must be by November, ie.SJSU) Students must send scores directly to the schools they are applying to, failure to send scores will delay application process or render it incomplete. UC takes the best total score from one test date. CSU will take the best critical reading and math scores from different test dates.

Science (Biology, Chemistry or Physics) 2 years E. Foreign Language 2 years F. Visual and Performing Arts 1 year G.College Prep Elective 1 year Total15 year long courses Minimum requirements

7 Repeating High School Courses Courses used to satisfy the “A-G” requirements in which the student earns D or F grades must be repeated with grade of C or higher. The repeated grades are used in calculating the GPA. UC & CSU campuses do NOT accept BYU online courses for: Lab Science (Bio., Chem., & Physics) Visual & Performing Arts

8 Selection Criteria for UC Comprehensive Review Subject Requirements “A-G” Examination Requirements: SAT/ACT GPA Honors/AP Courses –Challenging Courses Personal Statement Extra Curricular Activities Outstanding accomplishments

9 Provisional Admissions All admission decisions are provisional until all required documents, including final transcripts of work in progress are received in the Office of Admissions. Failure to complete required courses or other eligibility requirements will void admission to the university.

10 Selection Criteria for CSU Apply online (csumentor.edu) No essay or personal statement No letters of recommendation Eligibility based on grades in a-g courses and college admission exam results

11 Private or Independent Colleges Deadlines and Fees vary Students must request applications from individual schools –FAMILY CONNECTION – NAVIANCE –Common Application www.commonapp.org –www.californiacolleges.edu Letters of recommendation are often required (2 wk notice for counselors & teachers) SAT’s or ACT test scores required

12 Community College Transfer Apply sometime in February/March –http://www.cccapply.org/ Placement Exams in English & Math No Application Fee Transfer Programs: Honors Programs Entrance requirement: Students must be 18 years old OR have received a high school diploma.

13 Important Announcements 1.Ms. Tran-Trieu and Ms. Sallo will stay after school starting Oct. 15 to help students on Tues. and Wednesday. 2.Encourage your child to use Common Application 3.Make sure to follow up with your student’s application through email and portals

14 Reminders Your daughters must pass English and Religion with D or better to graduate. Students must pass all classes with C to qualify for a Cal State Tell your daughter to bring in Tax forms to qualify for SAT fee waivers

15 Dates to remember Oct. 3 (Last day to register for Nov. 2 SAT) Nov. 8 (Last day to register for Dec. 7 SAT) Sept. 27 (Last day to register for Oct. 26 ACT) Nov. 8 (Last day to register for Dec. 14 ACT)

16 Dates to remember Don Bosco College Fair – Oct. 1, Tuesday at 6PM Nov. 30 th UC and CSU Applications Due Start filing for Fafsa (Due Mar. 2)! (File taxes early if possible) See you on January 15 th for the next MANDATORY MEETING!
