4 Graduation Requirements
History (Wld Hist, US Hist, Govt, Econ) yrs. English yrs. Math (including Algebra 1) yrs. Science ( Life and Physical) yrs. Foreign Language yrs. VPA yr. PE yrs. Electives credits Must earn full credit in all required courses. TOTAL: 225 credits College entrance requirements are different than the high school graduation requirements, will discuss later in presentation.

As a resident of California you have FOUR options for higher education. 139 Community Colleges (CC) 23 California State Universities (CSU) 10 University of California (UC) 70 + Private and Independent Colleges/ Universities

High School Graduate If not a high school graduate, must be at least 18 years of age No specific course requirements No exams required

10-11 Grade A-G Courses ONLY Minimum GPA 3.0 What they look for: Classes taken Grades received Test scores California State University (CSU) grade ONLY A-G Courses ONLY Minimum GPA 2.0 What they look for: Classes Taken Grades received Test scores

10 Requirements: Top one-third (33%) of California high school graduates
23 campuses throughout the state Top one-third (33%) of California high school graduates Many Community College students transfer to a California State University Requirements: UC’s A-G requirements Grades of C or better SAT or ACT CSU minimum GPA to apply for admission is 2.0

11 University of California
10 campuses throughout the state Top 12% of High School Graduates ELC Program To be designated as ELC, a student must have completed 11 UC-approved courses prior to the start of senior year, and have a UC-calculated GPA that meets or exceeds the top 9 percent.  Requirements: a- g Requirements Grades C or better SAT Reasoning and/or ACT w/ writing UC Minimum GPA to apply for admission is 3.0

Every college makes its own rules on eligibility Read all information carefully Requirements: Check the individual school requirements SAT or ACT May require letters of recommendation. More than 70 colleges & universities Vary in size, location, and programs

Get to know your Counselor Do your best in all classes Begin to take part in Summer Programs Visit local college campuses Begin community service Remember, you will have more options if you start planning now for college and keep your grades up.
