Travel Counsellor Certificate Program NOTE – A NEW PROGRAM HAS BEEN IMPLEMENTED IN JANUARY 2014 The program consists of 10 modules on a variety of topics It is normally expected that the program will be completed in about one year from the registration date Each module would therefore average about one per month, but some could be completed sooner This is called “fast-tracking” and it is up to the student’s own discretion how quickly you wish to progress through the program Copyright Algonquin Careers Academy 2

Travel Counsellor Certificate Program The modules and examinations are: 1 – Travel Industry Introduction 2 – Hotel, Rail and Ground 3 – Tours and Cruises E1 – Mid-Term Examination #1 (Modules #1 to #3) 4 – Travel Geography (Western Hemisphere) 4 – Travel Geography (Eastern Hemisphere) 5 – Sales and Administration 6 – Selling Skills E2 – Mid-Term Examination #2 (Modules #4 to #6) 7 – Fares and Consolidation 8 – SABRE: Basic Theory and Practical 9 – APOLLO: Basic Theory and Practical 10 – Advanced Fares and Ticketing E3 – Mid-Term Examination #3 (Modules #7 to #10) E4 – Final Examination (Comprehensive – Modules #1 to #10) If enrolling in the full program at the beginning, the total fee is $3,700 (a savings of $1,000 from the course-by-course payment method) Copyright Algonquin Careers Academy 3

Travel Counsellor Certificate Program The required textbooks will be mailed to you after you register: Professional Travel Counselling (CITC) for Modules 1 and 5 Destination Geography – Volume 1 Western Hemisphere for Module 4 Destination Geography – Volume 2 Eastern Hemisphere for Module 4 Essential Sales Skills (CITC) for Module 6 Each module is an online website that is accessed with a unique address and password - they have instructions to help you work through the material Self-teach exercises are regularly given to help you test your own understanding of the topics They have an answer page for you to check your responses These are not submitted to your Instructor Copyright Algonquin Careers Academy 4

Travel Counsellor Certificate Program After you have studied each module’s materials and feel confident you have a good understanding, you may take an online test Each test is normally comprised of 40 true/false, multiple choice, fill-in-the-blank, or completion type questions One essay question is also included in most modules which requires manual marking by your Instructor your Instructor and request the password - You will be expected to take the test within 48 hours of receiving the password You will be allowed two hours for each test, and they are controlled by a countdown clock that appears on your screen Your Instructor will normally advise you of your mark within 48 hours The website address and password for the next module will then be sent to you Copyright Algonquin Careers Academy 5

Travel Counsellor Certificate Program On a regular basis, you will receive a Program Marks Report (an Excel file) showing your Module and Examination marks as you progress through the program This will be as an attachment to an from your Instructor Note that this is not an Official Transcript – but just a progressive personal report to you on your cumulative marks and where you are in the program Dates are shown as a guide for completion of each test and examination, based upon the planned one year schedule for the program, from when you registered. Travel Counsellor Certificate Program The minimum pass mark for each test and examination is 70% Should that minimum mark not be achieved, you may request a retest by to your Instructor. Upon achieving a passing grade for the retest, please note that a mark of only 70% will be awarded, although the actual retest mark may be higher. Progression to a further Module may not be allowed until a previous test achieves a passing grade. Travel Counsellor Certificate Program Copyright Algonquin Careers Academy 8 During the program, you will be required to take three Mid-Term Examinations covering Modules 1 through 10 There are 100 true/false, multiple choice, and matching questions (no essay questions) After you have completed the last Module 10, there is a Final Comprehensive Examination – three hours are allowed for each of the four examinations This is 100 varied questions (True/False, Multiple Choice and Matching – no essay) taken from each of the 10 modules you have studied As soon as this is submitted, your Instructor will advise you of your mark The Registrar will then make arrangements for the preparation of your final transcript for the program, and your Certificate
