FRESHMAN CLASS GUIDANCE WORKSHOP

To serve as an advocate and resource for students. To counsel, consult, collaborate, review schedules and transcripts, college planning, course selection and career exploration. Additionally to counsel students on maturational and socialization needs, behavioral problems or any academic, social or emotional needs that students may have.

PSAT / SAT I and II PSAT The PSAT will be given in October 12 for freshman, sophomores and juniors National Merit scholarships (financial assistance for college) are awarded based on scores form the junior year. SAT I and II SAT II are subject tests that are multiple choice and last one hour. Many colleges require that students take a few of these exams to demonstrate competency in specific areas, which could improve your college application if mastery is shown. Twenty tests are given in 5 subject areas English literature, social studies, mathematics, science and foreign languages. It is recommended to take an SAT II at the end of the subject; preferably in May or June: i.e. – Biology or World History Visit collegeboard.com

English – 4 years (8 terms) Social Studies – 4 years (8 terms) Lab Science – 3 years (6 terms) Foreign Language – 3 years (6 terms) Math – 3 years (6 terms) Physical Education - 4 years (7 terms + 1 term of health) Technology– 1 years (2 terms) Regents : English Global History U.S. History Life Science: Biology Physical Science: Chemistry/Physics, Algebra Geometry Trigonometry Foreign Language Students may not receive credit for the same academic course twice

To receive a Brooklyn Tech High School Diploma, each student must meet the following minimum requirements by the end of senior year… A minimum of 50 hours of community service outside of the school. Proof of these hours must be given in the form of a letter with the letterhead of the said organization in which the volunteering was done. * One copy of the letter must be handed in by the student to the COSA, and one copy must be given to his/her guidance counselor.

In House Service Credit A minimum of 32 points earned through participation in Tech clubs, teams, and/or participation in designated school related events 8 points per term to all students in BETA, NHS, Student Government, student productions, stage works, cheerleading, and PSAL teams. 6 points per term to all students participating in student leadership, who work on office squads, or compete in non- PSAL teams. 4 points per term to all students who participate in all other clubs not referred to above. 2 points per term for participation in specified school events
