China Spheres of influence An area where a foreign nation controls trade and investment In late 1800s, Europeans and Japan win control of areas in China US wants Open Door Policy Everyone can trade everywhere in China (except China) US just took control of the Philippines in S-A War China’s neighbor Easy access to resources & markets China is NOT a colony, but dominated by foreigners
