Today’s Goal: Begin reading and discussing Chapter 2 of Wrinkle. Outcomes: Define the literal meaning of “happy medium” and explain its figurative meaning in Wrinkle. Determine how long Mr. Murray has been away from his family. State what Mr. Murray does for a living and what Mrs. Murray does. Describe the unusual ability that Charles Wallace demonstrates. Name two reasons why Charles Wallace chose not to teach himself how to read. Explain how Calvin O’Keefe fits into the story as a character. Describe Calvin’s unusual trait that allows him to connect with Charles Wallace. Name two character traits of Mrs. Who that distinguish her from Mrs. Whatsit. Describe how Calvin feels about going to the Murray’s home.

Starter #1: Today’s Agenda is . . . “Discover” Wrinkle Vocab for Chapter 2 Summarize what we read yesterday in Wrinkle Begin reading and discussing Chapter 2

Starter #2: Yesterday we completed chapter 1 in A Wrinkle in Time. What do you recall from yesterday’s reading?

Starter #3: Instead of previewing today’s Vocab, let’s try something different. . . .  Turn to Chapter 2, page 22. As we read, look for the words listed on today’s handout. Whenever you find one of these words, raise your hand so the whole class can note that. Then, using only the context clues in the chapter, see if you can figure out what each word means and on the first line of each word, write down what you think is the definition. However, please do NOT yet complete the part that calls for creating sentences. Leave that as homework. If you do the sentences in class, I will collect your paper and you will take a zero. Why would I ask that you NOT work on the sentences while we are reading Chapter 2?
