Mrs. Whitehead’s Fourth-Grade Class Welcome!

Welcome to Fourth Grade! I am excited to welcome you into the fourth grade! The fourth grade rules and expectations are based on the Community Caring Values: Respect, Responsibility, Trust, Caring and Family. The rules in our classroom are based on the 5 B’s:

E RESPECTFUL Raise your hand to speak. Listen when others are speaking. Talk quietly and politely. Mind your own business.

E RESPONSIBLE Follow directions the first time given. Complete daily assignments. Bring things when due. Be honest about your actions. Clean up after yourself.

E SAFE Keep hands, feet & objects to yourself. Sit appropriately in your seat. Enter and exit classroom quietly. Use materials properly. Let an adult know where you are.

E KIND Use kind words. Be helpful to others. Give encouragement. Cooperate with others. Include everyone.

E WISE Use computers with permission only. Only use approved websites. Computers are never used with a substitute. Have clean hands before using computers. No food or drink near computers. Only print with permission.

Consequences & Rewards Consequences for not following the expectations and rules: Red “Stop and Think” card = Warning Students must discuss the behavior with their teacher before going out for recess. Yellow “Yield” card = Miss a Recess Green “Go” card = Removed from classroom or in-school detention Any behavior problems that result in a Yellow or Green card will be written in the student’s planner.   Rewards for following expectations: Positive notes in planner Praise Class rewards

Planners & Homework Planners: Each night students will bring their planners home. Inside you will find homework, information about the day, and any special notes for parents. Please discuss and sign the planner each night. Please feel free to write any comments or questions in the planners.   Homework: Students have homework every night. Reading 20 min. each night (out loud) or 100 min. per week – record in planner Study Spelling Math Facts Homework Sheets

Technology You will be part of a “Technology-Based Classroom”. This means we have one computer for every two students to use during the day. THIS IS A PRIVILEGE!!! Please treat the computers with respect and listen and follow instructions carefully. The internet agreement MUST be signed by a parent in order to use the computers. Systems are in place here at school to keep your students safe on the computers. NOTHING is 100%. We will teach the students safe practices, but they are on their honor to follow the rules and report any problems. The students will have access to programs and blogs at home. It will be the responsibility of the parents to make sure that these are being used appropriately.

Remember Please leave all personal items at home! NO – toys, trading cards, electronic devices, makeup, etc. If it is necessary to bring a cell phone, it MUST be turned off and stored in the student’s backpack. If these or any other inappropriate items are seen at school they will be taken and a parent must retrieve them.   If you are doing any back to school shopping, our classroom is always in need of tissues and whiteboard markers. Please limit supplies to those that could fit in a small pencil box. Do not send any Trapper Keepers or large binders.

Let’s Have a Great Year!
