HISTORY OF NME The NME (New Musical Express) magazine is a popular music magazine in the United Kingdom. It is published weekly since March 1952 and is the first British paper to include a singles chart . The peak of success of the magazine was during the 1970’s when it became the best-selling British music magazine. The first issue was published on the 7th of March 1952 after the Musical Express and Accordion Weekly was bought by London music promoter and re-launched as the New Musical Express. Unlike the prints now, NME magazines was initially published in a non-glossy tabloid format on standard newsprint. NME magazine is also the first magazine to have a Singles Chart taking its cue from the U.S magazine Billboard. This was published on the 14th of November 1952. The first of these was different from more recent charts. The top twelve was taken by the magazine itself from sales in regional stores around the UK. The first number one was “ Here in my Heart” by Al Martino.
