2 The Daily Mail was founded by Alfred Harmsworth and his brother Harold Harmsworth. The Daily Mail is a British, daily middle market tabloid newspaper- First published in 1896. It is the United Kingdom's second biggest-selling daily newspaper after The Sun. Its sister paper The Mail On Sunday was launched in 1982.

3 The Daily Mail was Britain's first daily newspaper aimed at the newly-literate "lower-middle class market resulting from mass education- a low retail price with plenty of competitions and prizes. It was a newspaper for women, first to provide features especially for them, and is still the only British newspaper whose readership is more than 50% female. The popular is considered to be the voice of ‘Middle- England‘. It strongly defends conservative or traditional values and regularly speaks-out against liberal views.

4 The Daily Mail began to print headlines and news stories on the front page from 4th September 1939, which coincided with the outbreak of the Second World War. The front cover had previously been dedicated to advertisements, as advertising revenue helped towards the cost of producing the paper. Two foreign editions begun in 1904 and 1905; the former titled the "Overseas Daily Mail", covering the world, and the latter titled the "Continental Daily Mail", covering Europe and North Africa.

6 The Daily Mail Supplements The Daily Mail has always paid considerable attention - sport and human interest stories. Published serials- encourage readers to purchase the next installment.Was the first daily newspaper to carry a separate feature for women. The “Weekend” colour magazine was launched -16th October 1993 and remains the Daily Mail’s leading supplement. Published weekly -contains interviews, television listings and regular features on gardening, cookery and shopping.

7 A separate newspaper supplement is printed alongside the Daily Mail on each weekday, covering a variety of themes like: “Lifestyle” - published on Mondays, “Good Health” -Tuesdays, “Money Mail” - Wednesdays, “Female” - Thursdays, and “It’s Friday!”- Entertainment guide is produced on Fridays.
